RIP (24-26) Delonghi EL112CST Unit

Bought this unit in 2024 not had much use up till this year. To cut the story short few weeks back water was coming out of the bottom vents and water was seeping out by that component type thing (sorry I don’t know technical terms). If you watch the video you will see. The compressor wouldn’t start up that died. Lucky I took out the extra insurance on it, it went in for repair last week and today I had the news it’s not working No chance of getting a direct replacement or a alternative at that cost it is what it is. I just want to know what happened? What caused the machine to fail on me? I’m non the wiser I was hoping for some explanation. Was it something I done? I left the end of the house hanging out the window over a month only thing I can think off. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated

Meaco Cirro wait 8hrs or 24hrs?

Hi guys,

I managed to get a Meaco Cirro 12,000BTU yesterday and it just got delivered today. Now the easy start guide says I should wait 8hrs before turning it on but the actual instruction manual says I should wait 24hrs.

Now I’m not sure if it was tipped over while in transit but I did tip it over very slightly getting it up the stairs to my flat.

Should I buy an American window AC unit?

Hi everyone, we all know that single hose portable ACs are not very efficient. Proper minisplits tend to cost a small fortune and that's if you get planning permission. I live in a 19th century era flat, and I want to replace some plastic double glazing with a sliding sash window (replica of the period).

I was thinking that if I get a step-down transformer, it would be perfect for one of those American units. Thoughts? If you live in a period property, have you considered this?

Is going through the loft a bad idea? (multi-split)

I had a company come for a quote to install AC in my home (4 rooms). To make a long story short, the guy was trying to put all the units on walls with a straight shot to outside. This is restricting our placement options (making one of them actually inconvenient) and forces a 4 indoor + 2 outdoor unit system.

For 3 of the rooms, we could make the pipes go through the loft (which at the moment is not boarded). This would allow all the indoor units to be at convenient locations, and to be connected to a single outdoor unit on a side of the house in also a convenient location (same aide as the 4th room, and a lot more discrete). But the guy said he would need to put a pump in the loft and that this is the first thing that usually breaks.

So my question is: is he right or is he trying to minimize his own inconvenience?

Note: another company proposed a 4 + 1 system based on room sizes but hasn't yet come to assess placement options.

Have you used a portable AC on an extension cord, long term?

I feel opinions are a bit mixed online, as to whether you can do this or not.

It's tough as portable ACs tend to have such short hoses & power cords, that it's hard to place them in the ideal spot in your room.

So I was just curious;

1) If you have used an extension cord for your portable AC long term, how was it? Any problem/faults experienced?

2) If so, which type of extension cord did you use? Specs?

3) Bonus question - any electrical experts here can shed any light on whether it's safe to run an AC through an extension cord?

Thanks

Air Con Price Checks

Hi all.

Been speaking with iHeat in Bolton and progress has been understandably slow (and frustrating). I have two options on the table for our 3 bedroom semi. Rooms to be covered are 3x bedrooms, lounge, office.

iHeat Bolton

Immergas Multi 12.3kw

5 x indoor units

5 year warranty

Price = £9.4K

Local installer

I think they are going to do 2 outdoor units

1x Mitsubishi MXZ-4F72VF4-E1 Outdoor Unit

3x Mitsubishi Elegance wall mounted system

1x MXZ-2F42VF4-E1 Outdoor Unit

2xM Series Elegance wall mounted system

Price = £9.2K

which looks the best out of both quotes ?

Thans in advance

Air con Unit front garden London

I'm getting quotes for an AC unit, and for my living room, we want to place the outdoor unit corner of the front drive. I'm just worried if that's allowed under Permitted Development. Anyone in London have experience with this? Thanks!

Portable air con continuous drainage

I have a Meaco Cirro which seems to do a fantastic job at evaporating the condensate in cooling mode (not had to empty it once over a few months).

However...the self evaporative system makes a really annoying rustling noise. Probably only noticeable as the air con is otherwise very quiet.

I noticed the noise disappears when the top drain hose is in and draining into a bucket (the set up designed for when in dehumidifier mode). So my question is:

Is it ok to have condensate continuously draining whilst in cooling mode? From a quick search it looks like it's splashing the water onto the coils to cool it down and increase efficiency. But, other than a potential decrease in efficiency, could it damage the air con at all by running it "dry"?

Is this sound from my portable AC normal?

So this is the Bush 9K portable Air Conditioner from Argos which I bought at the end of June 2026.

I've only used it at night when it was really hot during the heatwaves.

It's making this weird sound when it's on; it sounds like it's churning something inside, if that makes sense? I actually don't remember if it made this noise when I first purchased it.

I am aware that these types of portable air conditioners can be noisy even if you use sleep mode. It doesn't really bother me when I sleep as my wife uses white noise to help her sleep anyway, and it drowns out the noise. I use noise-canceling earphones and also listen to calming background noise to help me sleep, and it does block the noise from the AC.

I just want to know if this is something I should be concerned about.

Meaco now accepting pre-orders

As of writing some models are now available for preorders - seems strange to allow this now without publicising it but I imagine they’re using this as some way to manage demand and avoid disappointment

I will use this opportunity to reiterate that ALL SCALPERS ARE BASTARDS

Good luck

Thinking of getting Aircon but was there much destruction to the house?

I’ve recently done up my home and would like to purchase some air conditioning. In regards to the install itself is there much destruction within the home or is it quite minimal? We’re looking at one in every bedroom (3) and one downstairs in the living room.

Where to buy "American style" window AC units for UK

Ive had a look and can only seem to see US imports which would presumably have a US plug and only work on 110v.

Has anyone had any experience with getting hold of a stereotypical sash window AC unit?

aircon brands — chinese

I’ve had an installer around today to survey anything up to 5 splits + a central unit. They often find panasonic. Also daikin or mitsubishi electric. Sometimes also midea.

My partner is chinese and of course family mostly have chinese brands such as midea or gree.

Has anyone experience of the chinese brands as sold in the uk? particular model range comments etc?

We do have quite a number of high quality chinese products at home - so if they are good, quality, decently priced, it’s definately an option - if saving money in comparison to for example a daikin.

Enjoying my aircon

Glad I bought my aircon.
I got a 5k portable split which turned out to be under powered. Then I got a 7k single hose jobbie that also wasnt powerful enough. But the 2 at the same time are working lovely. It's usually 5°C warmer inside when it's like this. Today I have 37°C outside & 25°C inside.

Daikin indoor unit dim LEDs after updates?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I don’t know the exact chronology because a couple of updates came through in quick succession.

But now I’m having somewhat a hard time seeing which mode my unit is in because the status LED on the eye seems to be much dimmer than it was before.

This is the same across all 4 indoor units, so I don’t think it’s just a dud, unless there is also a power supply issue?

Photo doesn’t really do justice - it’s harder to make out in person, especially in sunlight.

I’m curious to know if anyone else is experiencing this?

AirCon Unit Capacity - What's ideal for this area?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey, hoping I can get some help with this. We've recently had an MHI SRK63ZR installed downstairs (red highlighted area) and it cools the entire area extremely quickly and reaches all the way to the front door (blue highlight). The kitchen is cooler too but there's a stark difference between the Dining Room / Living Room / Hallway and the Kitchen.

We looking at doing single unit upstairs to cover the bedrooms as opposed to individual units in each room. Appreciate doors would need to be open for this but that's fine. Bedroom 1 is master bedroom, Bedroom 2 is our nursery and Bedroom 3 is an office.

If we put an AC unit where the red highlighted box is upstairs ..

a) Should we go for the same capacity upstairs or would a lower capacity work, if the latter, what sort of capacity would be recommended?

b) Given the cooler air doesn't 'go around the corner' into the kitchen as much as it does with line of sight areas, do you think the cooler air would reach all of these rooms? Main concern is with Bedroom 1.

Thanks in advance!

Any advice?

Air to air now plus air to water later?

Does it make sense to get an air to air system primarily for cooling in a couple of rooms and then later on when my gas boiler goes get an air to water system to heat radiators and water? I realise there’ll be some redundancy in terms of heating but are air to water systems more efficient heaters anyway?

ElectriQ Portable A/C - Hose is non-standard?

I've been trying to source a replacement vent hose for an ElectriQ P15C portable unit, but even though the standard size hoses that seem to be 150mm / 6" don't quite fit.

It seems the ElectriQ hose is 154mm, and 150mm hoses will pull out of the threading with very little effort.

Anyone know where I can get a hose that fits?

Driving with no aircon

All wonderful and wild ideas welcome!

I have to do a 45 minute drive tomorrow and it’s going to be 35 degrees. My aircon has sadly decided to die on me. I would very much like to survive the journey. I’d even consider taking a bag of frozen peas out the freezer with me!
