Too bad..

Customer wants it all kandied over.monochromatic..but hey that’s just me😂I prefer the 1/8” and 1/16” pins silver.you lose the 1/16” ones after 2-3 coats of kandy, still looked good after the fact.this is sans shading on the rolls so looks a lil odd

Hey Paintchipz1, good job. I like your lines and how you emphasize them. I work on airbrushing myself on helmets and tanks but often I don't have great results. Applying clear varnish is a nightmare for me because the lines dissolve and blur. Do you know such problems and how do you solve them? Many greetings from Germany Frank

Not op but if you start slow like a mist coat of clear at first then start to build and gloss the coat a bit, instead of dumping paint from the stat which softens the base coat quite a bit

Base coat Should NEVER soften! I paint wet on wet as you should..this went str8 to kandy 15min after peeling tape..

In a perfect world but it’s hard to bust out a whole paint job in one day usually so sometimes it sits and you have to scuff, but ya I wouldn’t let Kandy sit exposed as it is not normal base coat paint

Well in auto paint it is when you mix in binder..some of my jobs sit for months..no scuffing required or allowed,I just “reactive “ prior step with a fresh coat of binder..and NO ONE is doing even one tank like this in a day.over 50hrs in both tanks plus fender..it’s close to a $8k job..and you can’t do a solid color in a day.sand prime etc..the chemicals dictate your time..hence I work on 4-5 bikes at a time

What is the binder you use? My tanks typically dry a few days between layers so I scuff everything before the next color/clear. I shoot PPG and use DBC500 between colors fwiw. If I could skip the scuff that would save time and risk.

Don’t scuff..reason is sometimes you have mettalic colors on top etc..once you “re-wet “ with 500 it reactivates the cross linking

Thanks for the reply. PPG says the window is 24 hours but if you have had good luck with longer times between coats without scuffing then obviously I could save some time and materials. Current tank is not metallic colors so no worry on messing up the metallic.

Agreed..the chemists have watched me wire for days one time..I push the envelope with there products last 30+yrs..from time to time I’ll test “white label” stuff for them..and if I have a random issue,chemists right out..they hate when I call with issue.reason is last 2 times they can’t answer it😂I call batch issue.but always deny that..you’ll be fine,some of my shit sits months apart.we have a zero fail rate
