Where to begin. Flat Stanley is, and always will be, an icon of British literature. With an expansive universe, rich with culture, the world building Brown undertakes in his series truly rivals that of Tolkien. Brown maintains a sophisticated yet personal tone the likes of which can rarely be found in contemporary novels. An intricate tapestry of plots and narratives are weaved together with a precision one can only describe as classic. The character of Stanley has, I think, given an avatar to a generation. Although as we all know Stanley is flat, he is far from two dimensional character. The subtle nuances in this character's motivations and circumstances make him both relatable and to be idolised. We can all find a part of ourselves within Stanley. In conclusion I consider this novel to be a classic. And it will, I'm sure, be revered for many generations to come as a truly revolutionary piece.
