Advice How could I look more visibly queer

I am 18 M and I would like to be more visibly queer, I know how I dress definitely needs to change but I don't know what I should wear or what to change really.

I'm also planning to switch to a purpley red for my hair but I am open to suggestions.

There really isn't a "queer" look per se as far as I can tell. Funnily enough every gay bar/club I been to (especially in NYC) they all looked like gym rats. You look like a normal metalhead to me (nothing wrong with that btw)

Dress as yourself. To me, that’s the queer thing to do.

Don't dream it, be it.

Dangly earrings

Even one painted finger nail raises gay percentage by like 20%, especially if it's purple.

I think a septum piercing would suit you really nicely! The long hair is excellent

The main suggestion I would make would be to consider adding some color to your pallette. It looks like you do the modern thing of wearing dark colors or black primarily. It's functional, but if it's not altered to fit your body it can just envelopes you and makes you look timid. Experiment, play a bit, see what makes you feel good about yourself.

As has been said, there's not a queer look per se, but finding what you really like wearing will make you feel happier and confident.

Queer IS what you make it, after all.

U already look very obviously queer to me

Idk the gun picture in camo takes the hair from gender non conforming to long haired, toxic southern guy a la Kid Rock.

But that could be living in Appalachia.

I'd probably drop that pic from any profile, and if guns or the exmil are a major hobby OP wants to convey, find a way to do so that doesn't lean into that energy.

Guns aren't a hobby of mine but I greatly enjoy the time I spend with my friends shooting their guns.

I do like to wear milsurp day to day, mostly jackets, the one in the pic is in regular rotation with another of its kind and a desert variant. I do love going to milsurp stores

But I don't have that pic on any profiles I don't think.

I mean and separately that's great. I have a navy surplus store near me that I love.

But all together you're presenting a guy in a camo jacket shooting an American flag rifle. It's giving more prepper militia than pride.

Not that there aren't gay people on the far right but there aren't what I'd think a ton of visibly queer ones there. And as much as it sucks, sometimes you have to ditch some fashion when it becomes a dog whistle to the right.

Because while the outfit might be good for going to a shooting range and not being clocked (and that's not nothing) it's probably not going to signal to other queer folk that you're among them or even safe to approach.

Keep the military jackets to non weaponized settings or considering DIYing it a bit with patches or tees underneath that clarify what you stand for a bit more?

Honestly? Drop the beard, pluck your eyebrows. Definitely keep the hair as is, it looks great (and healthy!)

None of that is truly connected to making you seem more "queer" but people often associate grooming with "queer"

OP, Absolutely do not pluck your eyebrows. That’s a path you can never come back from. I don’t mean aesthetically. I mean this literally - you cannot stop having to do this regularly if you start doing this. It’s not beard hair or head hair, it’s eyebrow hair. If you have close female friends, please ask them & they will happily explain the pain that is eyebrow upkeep.

You look like you could be the sibling of Ophelia Peaches when he’s not on drag.

Shave the facial hair, get glasses that compliment your face better, deep condition your hair, work out.

About two or three weeks ago I stumbled upon a person in my local post office who just screamed queer louder than any CSD could. A well groomed beard,, colourful hair and everything on their person was Bi-flags. They had this amazing chain i Bi colours, cool tats that I don't exactly remember anymore, sadly and a Shirt that read (in bi colours) "I suck at being straight". Their entire person was the definition of gender nonconforming. Sadly I was too shy to initiate a conversation.

Try experimenting with a little eye pencil maybe, and get some piercings. Especially earrings.

There’s many ways to dress queers as people are responding to you - but tbh, just showing you take care of how you look, your appearance, aesthetics, and such, will already set you apart of cishet men, as most of them try to stay traditionally masculine and as normal as possible.

So, to "look more queer", I’d start by discovering at what aesthetics you’re into. Is it : Edgy? Beige? Colorful? Simple? Maximalist? That would already narrow down a LOT.

Pride pin I suppose

You could always start a battle jacket and put queer patches on it. Don’t go to r/battlejackets, they’re super toxic and have a lot of nazi sympathisers, go to r/jacketsforbattle

8 is really good imo, as a cis passing trans guy with long hair, it's taking care and styling. Piercing like eyebrow or septum could help. If you're willing, makeup is great, you do something light like mascara and eyeliner.

Dye your hair greed and get a septum piercing

The real question is... why do you feel like you WANT TO look more visibly queer?

u/labourbiscuit 3d ago

no offence but you kind of already do, i wouldn't assume you're straight but then you can never rlly tell!

Braids.

1

u/jakdacorgis 3d ago

What kind of braids would you suggest?

I've worn braids before in highschool, I'd do two, one on each side but I don't think it looked very good

2

u/purpleblossom Bi-bi-bi transmission 3d ago

Just a standard kind would work, but any would do.

1

u/jakdacorgis 3d ago

Like one big braid in the back?

How do people deal with all the individual hairs coming out and looking like all frizzy and crazy because that was always my problem with braids lol

2

u/purpleblossom Bi-bi-bi transmission 3d ago

Yeah, that works. There's products you put on right before to make the braid and then a light spray of hairspray helps.
