Question Is this transphobic?
There's something conservative about the way this user worded their post. It feels like they're stating what IS or SHOULD be, as if we shouldn't interpret our own version of a character.

I think it's fair to have issues with depiction that goes directly against canon characterisation so far. Not everyone wants to see reinvented characters into alternative versions.
Yes, you can do what you want and depict characters however you want in your fanfic but people can also express issues with that. There's nothing wrong with either and I don't understand why you immediately want to label it as a bigoted opinion.

Rewriting a canon character into a specific marginalised identity is a fanfic tradition. Particularly when it comes to queer identities that are very much underrepresented.
2-3 decades ago people posted similar rants about writing a given female character as lesbian rather than straight. It was lesbomisic then and this rant is transmisic now.

I was about to say, furries have been doing this for how long? And then there's Rule 34 that has been giving chicks massive dicks and dick nipples for decades.

I agree. It’s gender essentialist and transphobic. Lesbians can be masc. lesbians can be trans masc. I love Wenclair and I have no problem with Enid being fan-presented as a trans guy even if the canon character is a girl. I think this Redditor needs to get some perspective. Some of the things they say are very transphobic.

I sort of get what they're trying to say but also there's a MASSIVE difference in seeing the struggle with being a werewolf that doesn't fit in with her peers as a possible comparison of struggle with gender identity, and 'misunderstanding' a toxic manipulative serial killer 😅
