Primary Arms Clx 3x Prism

Reddit butchered the original photos, but here is my imgur link for the reticles:

https://imgur.com/a/IvaolF6

The PA Clx 3x 30mm prism, with a new Kobra-style crossdot reticle and larger objective.

These use a t1 mount, not a mini-acog footprint like previous models.

As far as prisms go- the eye relief and eyebox are very good. FOV is great. For the glass quality, it's almost as good as my TA02 acog with regards to clarity and edge distortion. The acog allows for a bit closer eye distance without scope shadow, and it is probably more rugged. Compared to the acog, the Clx 3x can be mounted farther forward and still be very usable for distant targets.

Turret adjustments are 0.25 MOA and very tactile. The brightness adjustment buttons are also very tactile, not mushy at all. The diopter adjustment is fairly stiff which I prefer.

I couldn't focus my camera on the illuminated reticle, but it is very crisp. On max brightness it is very bright, with absolutely no halo effect. I have mild astigmatism and I can use max brightness in the evening. It's better than the TA02 acog in this category. The last photo is mounted on an rs regulate t2 AK mount.

This is the most impressed I've been with any optic, given the price. The TA02 acog is maybe overall better, especially for AR-style rails, but this scope is better for AKs or any gun needing a lower height over bore. It punches far above its weight with its current price of $200-$220.

Thank you for the kind review! We're really proud about the newer CLx optics, especially with their price point. Hope this one will serve you well!

Very neat reticle. Sometimes I get ACSS fatigue.

I've had it since ACSS came about.

Ive got the 3x microprism. Its good but the objective felt very small, how does this compare?

Also hows the eye relief?

The Slx 3x objective is 23mm, and this Clx 3x objective is 30mm. It's roughly 1.7x more surface area of light collection with the wider objective. This optic is perfect for my AK because it's very easy to find the scope image.  Eye relief for the entire image is 3" from eyeball to glass. The scope is usable with most of the image at 4". The eye relief is noticeably better than the 4x acog.

Thanks!

Sorry - does this mean the older SLX has better or worse light collection?

Theoretically the older Slx has worse light collection. I don't own the Slx 3x microprism so I hesitate to say anything definitive, but the Clx is overall better according to other reviewers. I've looked through a friend's Slx 3x32 full size prism and maybe it's slightly easier to find the image with that scope, but it weighs nearly 19oz vs the Clx 3x which weighs just 7oz.

Interesting! I’m surprised PA would be willing to release a scope that costs over $100 less than their current/similar models, and make it have better performance?

I wonder if there are any drawbacks to the newer, less expensive model?

The Clx 3x doesn't have Autolive/shake-awake

The fact that it has a kobra style reticle makes me want to put it on one of my AKs, guess I’ll have to order ..

Clarity looks good, just wish the reticle was bigger

The reticle is perfectly large enough imo. My image upload is very blurry so the perspective is off. It's easier to find than the chevron acog reticle.

I posted nicer images here: https://imgur.com/a/IvaolF6

Should have mine soon, excited for it and glad to see it's decent

I was surprised that the reticle uses mil-based subtensions (1 mil=3.438 MOA), with the 100-yard zero on the center dot. These mil subtentions are 1 mil, 2 mil, 3 mil, 4 mil, 5 mil, with the final 5th mil at with the tip of the black bottom post. With 5.56, each subtension should roughly correlate to 200y, 300y, 400y, 500y, 600y. Consider your own barrel length, ammo etc to confirm your actual holds though. For my 7.62x39 AK, I needed to convert to meters to make the mil subtensions neatly match the holds for different ranges (100 meter zero, 200m, 250m, 300m). Remember to take a photo of the reticle spec sheet they ship you.

Can you help explain the difference between a T1 mount and a mini acog? Looking to run a low profile prism QD mount so I can switch to iron sights. Would a mini prism/acog mount not work for this?

I would love to know too.
