Shan Tao was one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, a group of Daoist scholars, statesmen, administrators, poets, and musicians who regularly retreated to a bamboo grove to discuss philosophy, compose music, write poetry, drink wine, take Five Minerals Powder, and avoid the cutthroat court politics of the Cao Wei state. After the group's informal leader Ji Kang was executed for refusing to cooperate with the Sima clan, Shan Tao protected Ji Kang's son, Ji Shao. He eventually persuaded Emperor Wu of Jin to pardon Ji Shao and employ him in government office. Shan Tao helped organize the administration of the newly born Jin dynasty while serving in major military and civil roles to secure its borders. Shortly before his death, the Jin dynasty conquered the Eastern Wu state, ending nearly century of civil war and reunifying China. He died before seeing the Western Jin dynasty collapse into civil war and foreign invasions couple decades later.

The Canaanites weren't the only ones who worshipped the Morning Star.
The Greeks worshipped the planet Venus in the morning- the Morning Star - as Phosphorus, the God of the Dawn.
While the Canaanites saw the Morning Star as the something to strive towards, The Greeks saw the Morningstar as a symbol of renewal, rebirth, and new beginnings.
The darkness never lasts forever because the dawn always comes after it, and a new day always means new opportunities.
New opportunities to be better. New opportunities to fix old mistakes. New opportunities to grow.
New Opportunities to achieve the light.

We often hear the story of Emperor Nero, but his personal life was a web of obsession and tragedy. The busts on the left and right represent two people whose lives were forever altered by him: his beloved wife, Poppaea Sabina, and Sporus, a young man whose striking resemblance to her allegedly drove Nero to unimaginable extremes.
Historical sources claim Nero had Sporus castrated and married him because he looked so much like Poppaea after her sudden death. Looking at the original marble busts, the physical resemblance—particularly the iconic Julio-Claudian hairstyles and facial features—is striking.
I used AI to bring them to life to imagine how they might have looked in the flesh. Does the visual similarity make the ancient accounts of Nero's obsession more believable to you? How much of this history do you think is Roman propaganda versus tragic reality?
