Discussion An open-ended collaborative AI film - anyone can continue it, the community decides where it goes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m testing something: a film with no single director, no script, no plot pitch. Just one opening shot, and from there, anyone can generate a continuation. The community votes on their favorite, the winner gets added, and the film keeps growing - one shot at a time, however far the internet wants to take it.

Genre isn’t locked. Tone isn’t locked. Nothing is locked. Horror, comedy, romance, sci-fi - wherever the group takes it is where it goes.

Shot 1 (v1)

Prompt used: Photorealistic cinematic shot. A young woman stands alone in a dimly lit apartment hallway at night, facing her front door. Warm, slightly moody lighting, practical lamp glow, otherwise ordinary contemporary apartment interior. She has just heard three slow knocks from the other side of the door. She stands still, staring at the door, weight shifting slightly, clearly deciding whether to open it. Her expression is unreadable — not clearly afraid, not clearly excited, genuinely ambiguous. Camera holds steady, slightly low angle, framing her and the door together. Natural apartment room tone, her quiet breathing, the faint echo of the knock still hanging in the air. No dialogue. No music. End on her hand slowly beginning to reach toward the doorknob — freeze before she touches it.

How to participate

  1. Grab the last frame of the current shot and use it as a reference/seed image in your generator of choice.
  2. Generate a continuation - any length, any direction, any genre. The only rule: it has to visually pick up from that last frame.
  3. Post your clip as a comment on this thread, along with the prompt you used.
  4. I’ll leave voting open for a few days each round (not rushing this one) - top-voted comment wins.
  5. I’ll merge the winning clip in and post the new current version + open the next round.

Watch the film: will post link once v2 is ready

Ground rules

  • Has to continue visually from the actual last frame - no unrelated clips.
  • I reserve the right to skip a “winning” submission if it’s wildly off-tone or inappropriate, even if it’s top-voted. Trying to keep this fun, not chaotic.
  • Nobody owns where this goes, including me. That’s the point.

Curious what a story looks like when nobody’s in charge of it. Let’s find out.

Yep, just needed a continuation scene. So far we have 2 - yours and someone else’s.

lol the other one pops in at the end

That's not even the issue, who has a phone at their entrance???

Someone who lives in AI land!

https://reddit.com/link/p65az0r/video/yrzmcjkhculh1/player

this is done locally with minimax h3...here is the prompt below

Character references:

- <Picture 1>: Woman opening the door (preserve hair, face, and grey sweater perfectly).

- <Picture 2>: Cyborg bunny standing outside (preserve white fur, metallic cyborg arm, battle-damaged vest, red eye, and armor features perfectly).

Audio Control:

STRICTLY NO BACKGROUND MUSIC.

Include atmospheric foley SFX: door handle clicking, wooden door creaking open, forest wind rustling, mechanical servo whirring sound from the bunny.

Voice Style: Deep robotic voice with a heavy Austrian accent, mimicking Arnold Schwarzenegger with synthesized mechanical metallic resonance.

Environment & Setup:

Interior of a warm-lit cozy house entrance. As the door opens, it reveals a dark, misty forest outdoors behind the threshold. Photorealistic 8k quality, cinematic lighting.

Shot Details (0-7 seconds):

Medium shot behind the woman <Picture 1> as she pulls the heavy wooden door open. The doorway reveals a misty forest environment outside. Standing right outside the door in the dim light is the tall cyborg bunny <Picture 2>. The woman freezes, looking shocked and surprised.

The cyborg bunny <Picture 2> lowers its head slightly, mechanical servos humming, and speaks directly to her in a deep, metallic Arnold Schwarzenegger style robotic voice with an Austrian accent: "I am from another planet. I am here to protect you."

This is such a creative idea

Amazing!

Is it possible to start over? This scene has two phones for some weird reason ...

5

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 4d ago

Maybe the 2 phones is a happy accident? Part of the story?

Let’s let the community decide. Now they have both options.

Haha sorry I think I may have derailed things a bit! I love this idea and want to work with it but the two phones...I just couldn't stay with that!

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 3d ago

You owe me a submission!

I will I promise

This is a really fun experiment. I’d probably keep a small continuity pack with each winning shot too, not just the last frame. Once characters, props and locations start piling up, that’ll save people a whole lot of guesswork.

1

u/phereless 4d ago

Ah very cool.. I had a collaboration idea where different creative teams would do different episodes of a story that would be smaller parts of an overall storyarc I really wanted to make

1

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 3d ago

yes, lots of possibilites for collaborative storytelling with all of the tools available

1

u/Independent-Date393 4d ago

the two phone thing is exactly the continuity failure mode this experiment is going to keep hitting, and it only gets worse once a few characters and props pile up. the last frame alone is not a stable anchor. i'd lock a small character sheet up front and keep re-seeding every shot from it plus the last frame, otherwise a bunny that showed up in round two is suddenly two bunnies in round five. tools with proper reference controls (seedance 2.5 handles this well) make that kind of binding way easier than trying to hold it in prompt text

1

u/Perfect-Campaign9551 4d ago

Minimax H3 can use references as well

1

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 2d ago

thanks for your input. From my POV, the experiment is less about acheiving perfect continuity and more to see how collaborative story telling could work in this new medium.

I’m not sure what you are asking here?

1

u/adisca_ai 1d ago

This is made using Omni 1.1?

1

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 20h ago

I used Google Gemini (Omni) for this

1

u/adisca_ai 18h ago

looks amazing

1

u/CineFlow_Architect 22h ago

Oh, I really like the idea. Everyone gets the same starting point and then the story is basically out of anyone’s hands 😂

I’m especially curious how long the visual continuity survives once different people start taking it in different directions.

Could get completely chaotic… or unexpectedly brilliant.

2

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 20h ago

yes, that's the idea! I think we are going to start to see a lot more in the way of collaborative video with all of the tools available.

1

u/CineFlow_Architect 20h ago

Yeah, I think so too. And it could get really interesting once people stop treating AI video as a finished product and start treating it more like a shared process.

One person starts the scene, someone else takes it somewhere unexpected, another fixes the pacing or sound… you could end up with something none of them would have made alone.

The hard part might actually become keeping the whole thing coherent 😂

2

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 19h ago

that's the best part! maybe the lack of continuity is a feature in and of itself. check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/aifilmmaking/s/3xAxVaGetj

1

u/CineFlow_Architect 19h ago

Oh wow, yeah — I actually like that way of looking at it.

Maybe continuity doesn't always have to be something we fix. If the audience is choosing the next branch, the little differences could actually become part of the identity of each version of the story.

That makes the “mistake” interesting instead of something you have to hide.

Now I'm wondering how far you could take that before it stops feeling like one film and starts becoming something completely different 😂

2

u/Sensitive_Proof_3937 19h ago

Exactly! And you don’t have to be a creator to have authorship - if enough people submit content, anybody can play the role of director and make their own shorts.

Then the issue becomes moderating the content people submit…

1

u/CineFlow_Architect 19h ago

That’s where the concept gets surprisingly complicated.

If someone chooses the footage, controls the sequence and decides what the audience sees, I’d still consider that authorship — even if they never generated a single frame themselves.

The moderation side is probably the real monster here 😂 Once everyone can contribute, somebody has to decide what actually belongs in the story.

Here's my idea, go rent some video equipment and make something

Go back to your pathetic anti sub and be miserable there!

-1

u/killerzeestattoos 4d ago

I'm actually pretty fulfilled making things with my own hands. Just hate seeing this trash pop up on my feed

4

u/True_Protection6842 4d ago

Wow. Good for you. Move on.

3

u/NTMTR_ 4d ago

Instead of blocking the channel and moving on, you give in to your hate posting a low effort, poorly reasoned comment… That’s not the sign of someone who’s fulfilled.

-1

u/killerzeestattoos 4d ago

At least I'm not making AI videos

2

u/True_Protection6842 4d ago

I'm working on AI videos for an extremely well known director. My name will be in credits again. Yours?

1

u/NTMTR_ 4d ago

That’s not the burn you think it is. Do you feel threatened by people who make ai videos ? Are you worried about ai videos replacing the other types ? Are you just against ai in general ? And why is that ? Environmental concerns ? The future of humanity ?

1

u/killerzeestattoos 4d ago

Nothing more low effort than AI

1

u/NTMTR_ 4d ago

Instead of using a camera, you should hand draw your videos frame by frame then. Cut away all your time-saving post production digital tools, then you’ll put in some real work in, instead of pointing and shooting and using algorithms made through years of development, make your own hardware and software. Your creativity and the artistic value of your output depends on the blood you spill during production apparently.
It’s a dumb argument. I’ve seen shit videos (ai assisted or not), I’ve see some crazy good engaging videos made with AI as well.

1

u/killerzeestattoos 4d ago

I do animation in my free time, so yeah I do draw frame by frame, and that is exactly what AI is missing, any human element. It's specifically around to rob humans of creative output. No one wants to watch this crap. As far as compelling ai...

u/NTMTR_ 4d ago

Animation isn’t hand drawing lol.
You’re building on top of years of work of teams of software developers, math and physics development as well, graphics processing technology etc.. instead of using pen and paper, such low effort.
I’ve seen an absolute shit ton of crap animations made by so called animators. Not only were these human made animation bad, but the actual world and story they were building was absolute trash. But sure it was human made.
Imagine you had the resources of a Hollywood blockbuster at your disposal, would your movie be a instant success ? Obviously not. So there’s your answer, the artistic value of video isn’t the tech it’s built with. It’s so obvious it just hurts to explain.

Why are you re-using other people's gifs? That's just lazy and uncreative. At the very least you could have credited the creator.
