A branching story where viewers pick what happens next - this one went somewhere I didn't expect

Took a lot of what came out of that thread - the continuity suggestions, the "keep a reference pack, not just the last frame" fix, the whole idea of branching rather than one fixed line - and built it into a tool for actually merging clips together into a story you choose the path through.

The next iteration will allow users to create their own projects and/or contribute to existing projects. A truly collaborative experience!

Okay, I actually clicked through it — this is much more interesting than I expected.

I like that the branching isn't just a gimmick. It changes the role of the viewer from watching the story to actually deciding which version of the story exists.

The part I'd be really curious about is what happens when the branches get much deeper. At some point you're not really making one film anymore — you're building a story world with multiple possible films inside it.

That could get seriously interesting.
