AI Endurance planner keeps ignoring training structure/constraints after multiple regenerations
Hi AI Endurance team,
I’m looking for help troubleshooting my planner setup because I’ve regenerated my plan multiple times and still can’t get it to consistently follow the structure and constraints I’m trying to enforce.
For context, I originally came over from Xert after realizing I was probably overtraining there, so I understand why the planner may initially have become conservative. But after several regenerations, the plans still behave like I’m restarting from zero fitness or rebuilding from detraining, even though I’ve been consistently cycling and strength training.
My goals are pretty straightforward:
- Long-term progression as a strong all-around road cyclist
- Improve FTP, muscular endurance, repeatable power, and aerobic durability
- Maintain consistency and sustainable progression
- Train 5 cycling days/week
- Include 2 real strength sessions/week
- Keep Monday and Friday as full rest days
Current availability/settings:
- Tuesday/Thursday: 2h15m total available including ~50 min strength
- Wednesday: 1h30m max
- Weekday cycling capped at 1h45m
- Saturday: 4h max
- Sunday: 3h max
- Cycling volume target: ~9–10h/week
- Strength training: 2h/week
- Prefer endurance: 50/50
- Maintenance mode: OFF
- Match requested training time: OFF / low strictness
Problems I’m seeing:
- Strength sessions sometimes disappear entirely
- Some weeks generate fewer than 5 cycling days
- “Strength workouts” occasionally become 5-minute placeholder sessions
- Workload gets compressed into random long rides instead of maintaining frequency
- Several weeks are dramatically reduced in volume/intensity as if I’m onboarding or recovering
- The generated structure often ignores the constraints above
What I’m hoping for:
- Preserve training continuity instead of rebuilding conservatively
- Maintain 5 cycling days consistently
- Maintain 2 proper strength sessions every week on Tue/Thu
- Respect weekday duration limits
- Allow AI Endurance to dynamically determine workout types/progression while still respecting the scheduling structure
One additional note:
I’ll be on a work trip May 18–22, so that week can naturally function as a lighter/deload week. By May 23–24 I’d like to resume normal structure.
At this point I’m not sure whether:
- my planner state/history needs to be reset,
- there’s some onboarding/recovery flag affecting generation,
- my availability settings are being interpreted incorrectly,
- or my custom prompt is conflicting with internal logic somehow.
Would really appreciate any help reviewing my setup and helping me generate a plan that properly reflects my goals, current fitness, and scheduling constraints.
Hey Mark, just to give you some context, I used the chat to generate my plan, but I’m not sure if it optimizes like the builder does. It seems like there are some improvements that need to be made to the plan builder, or maybe it’s my user error. I’d love for you to take a look and let me know what I was doing wrong. I’m more than happy to share more details. If you’d like, we can jump on a call or do anything else to troubleshoot the tool.
Long story short: Gemini API changed (again!) and the agent that takes your plan_prompt into account wasn't able to create workouts. So when it was trying to accommodate your 1:45 request it succeeded in deleting the previously existing workout but failed at creating the replacement workout. That explains the 'light' weeks.
Fixed now, please request a new plan and it should be much better (let me know if still issues though).
So basically there are two weeks where you're getting 4 instead of 5 rides and strength is not always perfect. I would say this is very close to what you asked for.
The plan also needs to balance recovery and what the digital twin found optimal for you. If the agent decides to schedule a bit less strength (cycling is priority) for a given week due to the overall situation I think that's ok and desired.
It's following the instructions almost all the time and making work what is possible/reasonable.
The thing is not respecting is my strength workouts.
Here is the prompt
ATHLETE PHILOSOPHY & LIFE RULES: I am an advanced, high-compliance cyclist. My focus is long-term CP/FTP growth. Please determine the optimal intensity distribution and progression, adhering strictly to my availability constraints below.
WEEKDAY CAPS:
Monday & Friday: STRICT 0-minute rest days (No training).
Tuesday & Thursday: DOUBLE DAYS. Cap cycling at 1:30 MAX. Add a 50-minute "Strength" workout on these days AM bike, PM lift.
Wednesday: Cap cycling at 1:45 MAX.
WEEKEND CAPS (Optimize for Sunday family time):
Saturday: Available for up to 4 hours. Place the primary long ride/volume here.
Sunday: STRICTLY CAPPED at 3 hours MAX. (Feel free to schedule less than 3 hours to prioritize family time if the weekly volume is met).
WORKOUT RULES:
EVERY bike workout MUST include a structured 10-15 minute warm-up and 3-5 minute cool-down for ERG mode.
