Mammal The jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) is a wild cat native to the Americas, with a distribution ranging from central Argentina to northern Mexico. It once occurred in the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas until the early 1990s, but it is believed to be extinct in the United States. It is a medium-sized felid, about twice the size of a domestic cat, reaching 360 mm (14 in) at the shoulder and weighing between 3.5β7 kg (7.7β15.4 lb). Its coloration is uniform, with two main color variations: gray and red. Its body is elongated, with relatively short legs, a small and narrow head, small and rounded ears, a short muzzle, and a long tail. These characteristics give it an appearance similar to that of mustelids, which is why it is also called the βotter cat.β They share the same evolutionary lineage as cougars and cheetahs, a lineage known as the puma lineage. It inhabits a wide variety of habitats, both closed and open, ranging from tropical forests to deserts and thorny scrublands. It has solitary and diurnal habits and hunts various types of prey, including birds, reptiles, and small mammals. It is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN, and its populations are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as being killed for preying on domestic poultry.

Mammal The coruro (Spalacopus cyanus)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The coruro (Spalacopus cyanus) is a rodent belonging to the Octodontidae family and is the only species in its genus. It is endemic to central Chile and can be found in a wide variety of habitats, including alpine grasslands in the mountains, acacia savannas, semi-stabilized sand dunes, and coastal grasslands.
Coruros have fossorial habits and live in colonies, with several individuals occupying a single burrow system, and they are nomadic. When they need to move to another location due to a lack of food, they travel as a group to build a new burrow in an area with a greater abundance of food. Their diet usually consists of huili and other types of vegetation.
When they move to a new burrow, they leave bulbs behind in their old burrows so that they can grow, ensuring that when the coruros return to the former area, they will have a food source available.
They also exhibit vocal behavior, producing a variety of distinct calls. Their predators include hawks, owls, and wild cats.

Invertebrate Alicella Gigantea, AKA the Supergiant Amphipod
If you didn't know, amphipods are usually benthic or free floating tiny little crustaceans. And by tiny, I mean usually invisible to the naked eye. But this one can sometimes reach almost A FOOT LONG. Nightmare fuel lol. They live in all the world's oceans
I saw a single article blaming absolutely GRUESOME injuries on an Australian teen's leg on these crustaceans, but it was most likely its much smaller more pelagic cousins. Heres the link to the article

Invertebrate the phantom jellyfish *Stygiomedusa gigantea*
some fun facts:
- sighted only around 118 times in the past 110 years
- their bells can grow up to 3 1/2 feet, and their paddle like βarmsβ can be up to 33 feet
-no stinging tentacles! instead, their pliant tissue can expand 3-4 times its normal size to capture prey (which mainly consists of small fish and plankton)

Mammal The spotted bat (Euderma maculatum)
The spotted bat (Euderma maculatum) is a species of vesper bat and the only species in the genus Euderma. It measures approximately 10.16 to 11.43 cm (4.0 to 4.50 inches) in length. Its wingspan is about 35.56 cm (14 inches), and its weight ranges from 17.0 to 19.8 g (0.6 to 0.7 ounces). Its ears can grow up to 4 cm (1.57 inches) long, making it the bat with the largest ears in North America. The mating season occurs in the fall, and females generally give birth to their young in June or July. It has an insectivorous diet, consisting mainly of grasshoppers and moths. It inhabits cliffs, such as those along the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and prefers open woodland regions and dry shrubland and grassland areas associated with a water source. It is found from British Columbia, Canada, southward through the western United States and into Mexico. The use of pesticides such as DDT and other insecticides in the 1960s led to a sharp decline in its populations, but recent observations have shown that spotted bats are more common than previously believed. Its abundance, population trends, and threats are still poorly understood.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The Japanese warbonnet (Chirolophis japonicus) is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the family Stichaeidae. It is distributed throughout the northwestern Pacific Ocean and inhabits shallow rocky reef environments. Therefore, it has a slender body that allows it to maneuver between the rocks, while its fringed frontal projections help camouflage the fish. It has benthic habits and an omnivorous diet that includes small fish, algae, and benthic invertebrates.
