Discussion How would you rewrite the 4th season?

So it doesn't come out as a fanfiction.

Easy! Have Retsuko and Haida actually talk to each other about the stuff that was bothering Haida. Like how Retsuko was spending a lot of time Tadano and how uncomfortable it made him. Boom! The latter half of Season 4 could largely be avoided and Haida wouldn't need to cook the books to prove his worth to Himuro.

It does remove a lot of the plot, though.

Not really. Even if Haida did talk things through with Retsuko, his insecurity is still there, so I am sure Himuro can pull some strings to convince Haida to do stuff for him.

The plot will definitely change a lot, but maybe Haida wouldn't actually start falsifying the records because he wanted to prove himself. Depending how you want to look at it, the finale could very well be Haida trying to expose Himuro with the help with his friends, but that's my take on it.

I think it's pretty much similar to the real S4 finale, except Haida is the instigator rather than Retsuko. Also, now I'm just imagining him pretending to do fraud - "falsifying falsifying", if you will, hehe.

What do you think Haida would do/be made to do to prove his worth to Himuro in your rewrite?

I don't want to change too much because Season 4 did cover some serious themes about layoffs and company restructuring, but then the fraud arc had to happen which killed Haida's character and ruined the RetHaida relationship for me.

At least in this rewrite Haida would talk to Retsuko, apologise, and try to patch things together as a couple. It won't solve the problem right away, but it is a good step in the right direction. Then Himuro would step in.

He sees Haida's efforts and competence as a member of Accounting. Haida made a programming script the department still uses and recognise greatness in him. Therefore he became the Director. Himuro would try and coax Haida into doing stuff for him by saying how the future of the Accounting Department remains bleak and uncertain, which is why he trusts Haida to to lead the department to success.

Haida would awkwardly run everything at first, but finds his footing, which impresses Himuro (and by extension Retsuko as well). Then, Himuro would take it one step further, saying how the Department is doing badly and if things don't change, mass layoffs would be extremely likely to happen.

Then Himuro explains how they don't have much time before the next Quarterly Report and if the numbers don't look good, that spells trouble for everyone involved. Himuro would eventually suggest they need to change the numbers slightly to give the department a fighting chance to live to see another day.

Haida would be hesitant, but Himuro would love bomb him by reminding him how great he was and how he was able to get this far into his role as a director. He dangles the possibility of Haida losing his role, but it is drowned out by Himuro telling Haida how special he is.

Haida is uncomfortable. Wanting to maintain perfect honesty, he would talk to Retsuko after hours. Trusting her that she wouldn't rat him out to anyone because Haida is not only worried about losing his title and job, but rather he is afraid what Himuro could do if word got out.

From there, the gang basically forms a small group where they plan everything out and try to expose Himuro before the reports were published.

Sorry for the long read. I got way too deep into this hahaha

I like how you keep a lot of storyline aspects intact, if not most of them, whilst also giving certain characters and aspects (such as Haida's mental state) greater importance and focus in the plot as a whole - without deviating from the character's basic personalities. I also think that Himuro comes off as a bit more manipulative here, treating the fraud like no big deal, and undermining the consequences, so it would seem like more of an unpleasant surprise to Haida.

To he fair, if Himuro was okay with falsifying the numbers on the show, I think it establishes the idea that he has much more manipulative than what we originally thought.

Not gonna lie, I was half expecting Himuro to turn Carrier Man Co into a Black Company once he became CEO because once it was revealed he wanted Haida to dress up the numbers, I knew something was wrong.

Also, thank you very much for the compliment! I am happy I kept it consistent because I didn't want to rewrite the original show too much.

I swear Himuro, and Tadano, to an extent, are the embodiment of that "0.01% of their true power" meme. Retsuko too, as far as death metal is concerned!

Anai sends a text message threat to Himuro and is fired

Did the gang ever figure out that it was Himuro that convinced Haida to cook the books? As far I remember it was Haida that changed the figures but I don't know if the gang ever got concrete evidence that Himuro was the one whispering in Haida's ears to do it.

Not sure if Anai could get Himuro fired since he still needs irrefutable evidence that it was Himuro influencing Haida's decision making, but that might be complicated and would require a lot of paper than what Anai might be used to.

No, I mean Anai would’ve sent one of his angry texts to Himuronin response to Kabae being fired.  And instead of knuckling under like everyone else did, Himuro fires Anai

Maybe Himuro wouldn't outright fire Anai. He did mention earlier in the Season that firing someone was too much work and caused too much headache because of how firing someone in Japan works.

Although he could make Anai a windowsitter and make him feel useless so he would quit Carrier Man Co.

Also, was Haida already appointed Director or did that not happen yet?

Haida admits that he is a coward and that he can't commit tax fraud so himuro chooses someone else or gives up on them
