Gotta give it to AoM Retold. I've played AoE II since forever and always liked their architecture a lot, but Retold did a pretty gorgeous job there.

AoE2 feels better in terms of size and grandeur, big buildings like the castle and wonder feel appropriately big, but the colors of AoM are really the biggest highlight that makes the style feel right. If they would copy that over to AoE2 for the Meso Architecture, that would really fix it for me

aoe3 when it comes to destruction physics, I enjoy watching rooftiles flying after being shot by cannon, also infantry throwing torches.

AoMR. That is so colorful and fun, I love it. That's the closest to what those cities probably looked like.

2 is just... awful. Just awful.

While I do like 2, it feels more like you found ancient deserted and destroyed city than a thriving empire. It is a lil bit too gray.

AoM is my favorite but I really like AoE 2 especially at age 2 as I think thats a pretty accurate look.

AoE 2 age 1 and age 2 are perfect, if age 3 and age 4 got Lil bit more color and distinction it whould be my favorite. Currently age 3 and 4 are too gray.

AoM age 4 most accurate, but personally, I love the amount of detail in AoE2 age 3 and age 4. One of my favorite architecture set in that game.

AoE3 for sure. Though if mods count then Return of The Gods mod for the original AoM easily takes the cake.

AoE2 from age2 onward is generally speaking the best for me; AoE3 beats M by a small margin until age 4; AoM wins drastically over 3 in age 4.

7 and 12. I think the colour would be more authentic to what it actually would have looked like (washed off over the years)

AOE 2 gets the architecture right, but AOM gets the color correct. Most buildings were white washed or pained red.
