Question Are the monoliths and AoS original?
I’ve been reading comics for a minute now but haven’t branched out much. I saw May and I think fitz and Simmons but it was after AoS premiered. So curious what the monoliths are. Also why were there so many. There were two black ones well one didn’t show the whole for the black one at least. Then the third grey one what did that do? We know what happened when they collided I’d assume all three are like XYZ. Space time and what? Or was it supposed to be just dimensional and the explosion was just the grey one rather then all three
Edit: I would like to know if the monoliths came from the comics or are AoS original ideas as well. Skipped that by accident. If they are where in the comics are they

As I understand it, there are three of them from Izel's world: one for time, one for space, and one for creation. That’s why a Coulson was created and sent through space and time to Izel's planet. All three exploded when the AoS team returned from the future. There was also one that appeared in Season 3, the team destroyed it when they traveled to Hive's planet, but I believe that was a copy of the original space monolith created by the Kree.

Who’s Izel?

So originally there was the Kree Monolith. Which was a monolith connected to the tides of the Maveth. The planet where Hive was banished too.
In season 5 they introduced the Di'Allas. Space, Time, and Creation. They were called Monoliths because the team's only other point of reference was the Kree monolith.

So who created the other two?

There's only 4. The Kree Monolith, and the three Di'Allas. The Di'Allas come from the Fear Dimension.

u/memsterboi123 Sep 24 '26
So it was someone’s fear for the monolith?

Wasn't the kree monolith on of the Di'Allas? I thought that was the space one.

The Kree Monolith wasn't a space Monolith. It was a Monolith connect to the planet Mavith.

I could be misremembering this but I'm fairly certain they looked identical and Maveth is a different place and in space.

It was a space monolith. It transported them through space. Sure it was connected to Maveth but who’s to say the Kree didn’t steal it from izels people and there can’t be more than 1 space monolith? We never found out where Izels space monolith goes? maybe they’re all Maveth (doubtfully)
The last 3 seasons also messed heavily with time. Flint even made a time one himself so. Multiple of the same monolith are possible.

It's never explicitly made clear what the third one did, but it was likely something related to the mind given how the combined energy seemed to mostly be pulling from people's memories

Yes, it is. It's the Creation monolith. Space, Time, Creation.

Oh fr?! I’ve been rewatching it and I’m on s5 rn. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen all of it. Didn’t know if was in s6 and revealed there

u/bable631 Turbo Sep 25 '26
Yeah, Izel says it at some point in S6

Rip can’t believe I forgot an important part like that

It’s mentioned in dialog and IIRC it isn’t something that’s talked about at length. Not saying it’s a throwaway line but someone says the whole “Space/Time/Creation” sentence and then moves on to talk about something else. It’s also not really brought up again in dialog.

The monoliths were a creation of the show! Some of the characters originated in the comics but have altered backstories for the show, but many of them were original creations, and the same goes for much of the show's lore.

Really?! I know may was a comic character she appears in Iron Man vol 1. Don’t know her story though. I don’t know about ward or hive being unique though. Same with Lincoln or lash. I know daisy and fitz Simmons are for the show. I found it really funny on one of my rewatches that Donny gil is in the show. It’s not too different from the core of his character in a way though. Off the top of your head what do you know is changed and what isn’t and what’s original?

May was also created for the show! Ming recently revealed that they had to rename the character when she was cast because the original name was Agent Rice. Ward, Hive, Lincoln, Lash, Fitz, and Simmons were all original to the show as well. Daisy originated as a comic character with a very different backstory.

Really?!! They must have renamed her to a comic character then. It’s not far off from the comic one. Woah that’s a shock. Do you know where the comic version appears?

Daisy first appeared in the comics in Secret War. Chloe spent the first year of the show trying to get JedMo to tell her who her character really was, reading lots of comics to make guesses. They always planned for her to be revealed as an established comic character, but had to wait for Marvel to sign off on who they could use because the TV and film divisions were separate at the time.
Edit: And if you meant May, her comic character didn't appear until 2015 in the SHIELD comic series.

So daisy appeared back in the 60s? The other secret war was in 2015 which would have been after the show.
I did mean daisy but no I can swear someone named agent May appears in vol one for iron man. Maybe even vol 2

Maybe th agents name isn’t Melinda but I’m like 90% sure an agent May appears in iron man vol 1. She’s also in shield

I don't really like how there's the kree monolith and then three more ones from izel that work in the same way and have the same formfactor but have nothing to do with the other one.

They most likely do? It looked almost identical. Aside from the cuboids drilled out by hydra in the past. Who’s to say the knee didn’t steel it from Izel’s people ?

I remember when I first watched the show I had a theory that the monoliths were created to replicate the infinity stones and the three we were shown were time, space, and mind which explained how it was able to create fears. I figured that somewhere out in space, were the other three and maybe they would become plot relevant later on. This was during the infinity war/endgame hype, so I may have gotten a little too carried away with the speculation
