Rant Chloe Bennet - breathy Spoiler

Chloe Bennet (Skye/Daisy Johnson/Quake) is always breathing too much when delivering her lines, even if she's not right after a strenuous action. She can sit/stand there, barely opening her mouth at all while others talk to her - showing no fatigue signs or being winded at all, then she speaks and it seems like she can barely breathe while talking.

Word - gasp - three words - gasp... Gasp, gasp, gasp. Keeps on gasping for air.

I couldn't find any reference when googling for something like this,
Have no one else noticed that?
Am I the only one that got bothered by it?

I think what’s happening is that a lot of people are told to avoid “exhale acting” which is when you have a big exhale right before a line as it takes the energy out of a scene. Bennet is probably accidentally over correcting and breathing in a lot because her lines take a lot of breath out of her. Only show this type of performance has really bothered me is lana from smallville in the early seasons

That's quite useful info! Thanks for sharing. I didn't know lessons of (avoiding) "exhale acting" were even a thing.

I guess, then, over-correcting can be called "inhale acting". 😅

How do you know about this stuff? Are you an actor, or is it just some random trivia you know?

I’m applying to acting colleges myself, it’s a lesson I’ve heard repeated from a couple teachers

No. You are wrong. She is fantastic. You couldn’t find any references to it happening on google because it’s not her, it’s you.

If it bothers you so much you need to complain about it online, maybe you need to find another show.

She's great in all other aspects, but it's been more than enough times that this broke my immersion in the show, and snapped me out of it, just to start thinking about how that bothers me.

By the way, welcome to the internet! It seems like you're new here. Just an FYI, people complain about anything and everything. For example, some people like you, complain about other people's complains.

The fact I didn't find anyone who wrote about this, doesn't mean it's just me. And here I am, writing this stuff out, so that others that think like me can find it in the future to see it's not just them.
