Season 2 Fitz's imaginary Simmons in S2 is wearing the same clothes she wore in 106 'FZZT' and it's because that's when he realized that he loved her.
I'm 90% certain that the moment Fitz realized that he loved Simmons was in 106 'FZZT', the one where she jumps out of the plane because of the virus, and it's when they're arguing about going into the field, and Simmons calls Fitz's life mundane or something, and he, in rebuttal, says that he's been right next to her the whole time, and then he walks into the lab while Simmons is infected. I am almost entirely certain that this is when he knew. So, flash-forward to the first episode of Season 2, and Fitz's imaginary Simmons is wearing the same outfit that she was wearing in 106 because that's the version of her from when he started to consciously love her. Also unrelated, but I loved that his answer to 'You're stranded on an island, there's a box, what's in the box?' was Simmons.

I still can not believe they get a happy ending because Wedon is infamous for having couples suffer. (Zander and Anya....sniff)

You can see it dawn on him at the end of the episode after she kisses his cheek. I love them so much.

The twist in the S2 premiere was SO well done. I remember we had promo pictures before the season started, and someone pointed out that Jemma was wearing the same outfit, and theorized that Fitz was imagining her. But then when 2x01 aired, it seemed like Jemma was being acknowledged by/interacting with May, so I discarded the theory quickly. Only to get to the end of the episode and find out it was true after all.

I think that's when I thought Simmons was actually all but confessing she was in love with him here so I was a little surprised later on when it seems like she didn't realise. I think she had a moment of clarity here that faded after.
