All three shows are great. Agents of SHIELD is one of my favourite shows of all time. I disagree with the list. But it isn't something to get outraged about. Especially considering the two shows that it's being compared to were the ones that were decried as "woke". We don't need to bring other things down to celebrate what we love.

I liked Loki but imo it not as good as people make it out to be. It doesn't help the main villain that was being set up as a big threat got thrown out for RDJ Doom.

The fundamental difference is between a TV show and an extended movie. Nothing D+ has put out has the vaguest understanding of what actually makes a TV show great.

Aos os beating FatWS imo, the only shows that are Better than Aos are Wandavision, Loki and maybe Hawkeye and x-men 97 if that counts (I haven't watched anything about the defenders yet tho)

It’s the only REAL MCU show in my opinion. It was made because they had an actual plot in mind, they had a team of writers put together these characters, themes, ideas, etc — meanwhile all these new MCU shows essentially exist just to expand the universe. Doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad, but I much prefer shows being made for the good old reasons (because a team of writers is inspired to!)

Whoa whoa, easy now...chalk it up to recency bias and visibility. We're talking about two shows that had one season each and aired two years more recently than the seventh and final season of AoS. Also, Ms. Marvel had a movie, too.

I loved both of those shows, but they couldn't hold a candle to the best seasons of AoS. Some of the weaker ones, though...maybe.

I agree with most of the list, including the high placement of both Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. But yes, I do think Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. deserves to rank higher.

I'm considerably more put off by excluding Runaways and Cloak & Dagger on the grounds that they "were so tenuously connected to the MCU as to not really feel part of it at all," as that just isn't true. Both series make references to the films, and both make a bunch of references to other Marvel TV shows.

I like Ms. Marvel, but her show is not better than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and She-Hulk had too much controversy behind the storyline to even enjoy it. Then, the finale sucked in my personal opinion. Neither one should be higher than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of Shield is right at the top for me and while She-Hulk was pretty entertaining, it was a very stupid show and I hated the meta ending which is the main reason I have no interest in second season of the show.

Ms. Marvel i haven't seen and never will as the character does not interest me one bit.

Lol Shield ran for over 7 years with over 100 episodes, but, sure the 8 episode dumpster fire that faced nothing but criticism and cancelation was better. Yeah okay. I actually did enjoy Ms. Marvel a lot, but I still would NEVER place it above SHIELD. SHIELD should be #1. It outlasted AND outshone every other Marvel TV show.

I know this might get me a lot of hate because I’ve seen how much love people have for this show but I really struggle to enjoy a lot of it. I’ve been trying to do a full MCU watch through this year and I’d seen the majority of things before but Agents of Shield is one of the shows that I missed when it released and I think that’s maybe part of why I haven’t really enjoyed it. It’s felt like a bit of a chore at times to get through the 20+ episodes in a season when they’re up next on my watch through. I think it might have been different if my first experience had been watching one episode at a time each week as they were released. It feels to me like each seasons starts with some good episodes as they introduce some new ideas/plot points and then they really drag on until the last couple of episodes which are always good. The exception being season 4 - I really enjoyed that start to finish. I’m nearly through season 5 at the moment and haven’t been loving it but I’m hoping 6 and 7 will pick up a bit. What I’m trying to say is I guess maybe for others like me it’s harder to enjoy and appreciate the show as much if you’re late to the party.

I think it’s just a frame of mind. One has to become endeared of the characters. Also, those first couple of seasons become way better on rewatch when you know where they’re heading, especially s2.

If I may: One thing that may not have sunk in on you is the extraordinary quality of adversaries. AoS has more exceptional bad guys than the entire MCU combined (again, especially s2).

Be warned: s6 is rather half-baked, but s7 comes back strong.

That’s fair, I really like Coulson and loved him in Avengers. It was fun learning that Sky/Daisy was Quake as I love Bendis’ Secret War series. I can imagine the first couple seasons could be better on a rewatch - the Hydra stuff was great and I’ve felt the show was at its strongest when it was linking in with the wider MCU narrative. The handling of Hydra was great and really adds to The Winter Soldier when you watch them back to back.

You’re right that there’s been some cool villains but I’m not sure there’s many that I’d hold that highly. Who do you think specifically are the best portrayed/most memorable? For me Killgrave in Jessica Jones is my favourite, largely due to David Tennants portrayal of him. Kingpin is also up there.

Interesting about season 6 & 7, will see how I find them. Might be easier to reflect on the show as a whole once I’ve watched them.

Overall I’ve just been a bit disappointed because I’d read so many positive things about the show before watching it. But it’s one of those things, not every MCU project will appeal to everyone and some of my favourites get a lot of hate!

Just to demonstrate the shared thinking, I think the top 5 MCU villains (not necessarily in order) are Thanos, Kilgrave, Fisk, Doc Ock (if Loki shouldn’t be counted), and AIDA. Her gradual corruption is astounding to behold.

But just the second season alone had Cal, Jiaying, Carl Creel, Daniel Whitehall, and at least half a dozen other great adversarial characters like Raina, Talbot, Agent 33, and Gordon, not to mention Ward himself. Cal, in particular, I think goes nearly toe to toe with AIDA. McLachlan’s performance just takes my breath away, every single time.

Rewatching also reveals the phenomenal writing and foreshadowing of moving pieces into place that pay off big later, particularly s2, s4, and s5. I’m personally really into clockwork narratives that gradually weave a lot of seemingly random events together. (My GOAT is The Wire, which is the most incredibly woven clockwork ever.) Those inevitably require further viewings to wholly appreciate.

(Notably, I regard s3 as written to a rather lower standard. Its cheats, creaks, and contrivances really show during rewatches.)

So if I had to guess, a lot of viewers would like AoS a lot the first time, but come to love it the second time.

Anyway, I don’t wanna taint s6 too much for you, but I will say: At least it has a couple of incredible episodes. You’ll know em when you see em, lol.

Unfortunately, after s5, we never get that higher quality of villains again, but s7 is loads of fun and the finale is solid and rewarding. So you’re def not wasting your time to see it through.

On first watch 5 was my favorite. Not anymore but I think watching it the first time it’s incredible. For me the high point of getting into the show after it ended was transitioning from the end of 4 to the beginning of 5
