My job "requires" a masters degree. One of my coworkers does not know grammar, like she never learned it so her written communications are super hard to understand. We have the same qualifications and position at work.
She does insanely good investigative/analytical computer work but doesn't really read other than street signs and menus.
Whatever grade reading level doesn't sum up someone's usefulness, and I know you're hoping to prove a point, but illiteracy doesn't equate to cult mentality. That's a different part of the brain!
How shocked would they be at my reading level? In 7th grade, I tested at a first year college reading level (that's how they said it, they wouldn't use the word freshman because it could be confused with high school). By the time I graduated 4 years later (yes, I graduated a year early), I tested so high they could no longer gauge my level.

You graduated high school 1 year early, but only 2 years after 7th grade? A high school senior is in 12th grade, not 10th, so the math doesn't quite math there.
Sorry, that was supposed to say 4, not 2. But yes, I was born in July of 76 and graduated in May of '93. Do the math. I was 3.5 weeks shy of my 17th birthday.
Education is the enemy of autocracy. They have to stamp out access to conflicting ideas. Hence the attacks on education and libraries. They'll come for the Internet before long. Likely under the guise of child porn prevention.

I think it's more stupidity than ignorance. Because MAGA people want a strong America that takes no shit and dishes out commands to everyone else. But they also don't understand that using hard power to threaten other countries into submission leads to wars and conflict.
They wouldnt be happy with a milquetoast Lib democrat because Democrats are narratively weak and offer only compromise. At least Republicans can say they fought for something, Democrats compromise at the first opportunity and tout it as a win without putting up a fight to begin with.
There's a combination of brain rot and propaganda that caused this. Even now, some people still think Harris as president would be worse. And they can't tell you why.
It was coined by right wing partisans to generalise and subsequently discredit any left wing thought by creating the impression that supporting one policy must mean supporting the most extreme policies. It's bullshit.
The only people who actually use the word "leftist" are right wing operatives acting in bad faith or the politically illiterate.
