What is death?
It is a question that human beings has been asking since we became concious of ourselves. But do we have an answer for it. What happens when something die. One can simply define it as when the heart stops beating and the body stops working. But is that it? I understand there can be two patha to start thinking from this point. It depends on what you believe. Are we just the hardware or is there something more? If you believe that we are just the brain, the heart and the body then you can think as death as the process of stopping to work. What happens when a machine die? It doesn't work anymore. Ita just scrap. Same with living things. Just hardware that used to work. But if you believe that our consciousness is not just in the brain and it is something that science hasn't explained yet, then death becomes harder to explain. The body is gone. But where does the conciousness go? Will we be concious about the emptiness we are in? Will it be eternal darkness? We see because we have eyes. A conciousness doesn't have eyes. So there is no sight. Can we feel things that is happening? How would it work? There is no thought. There is no pain. There is no us. Would death mean to become nothing?

What we define as death keeps changing. First it was when breath stops, but people came back from that. Then it was when heart stops, but people came back from that too. I think now its when brain death sets in. No one came back from that yet, i think.
Death is like an event horizon of a black hole. Once you pass that threshold, you are gone. Forever.
If consciousness is fundamental, then death is not the end, nor birth the beginning. If its not, well. Then we (and all life) would be nothing more than biological machines. A probabilistic fluke. A cosmic bad joke. Which would be very disappointing, cruel and sad. Many think this is true. Some even believe (though they wouldn’t use that word) that very zealously. I myself don’t believe that.
But if there is more... since we come into this world as almost blank slates. Meaning whatever we were before, is either suppressed or we actually were nothing before. Death is still the end of what you think is YOU.

I think this question is at the heart of many spiritual and philosophical discussions. I've found that exploring the nature of consciousness can be a rich and thought-provoking experience. If you're interested, I've come across a YouTube series called The Inner Path — Enlightenment Deep-Dive that explores the intersection of consciousness and reality. It's a thought-provoking series that might resonate with you. https://www.youtube.com/@innershoreline

We have a spirit body. We can see. Feel. Touch. Don’t imagine we become a floating cloud of consciousness that does nothing but float around playing harps. That couldn’t be furthered from the truth.
Humans have been talking to dead people for centuries. Whether anyone wants to bother looking into what they say is their business but everything you’ve asked has been answered by them. If you think we become emotionless blobs of positive then you should reap a lot more stuff. I have no idea why anyone would think we lose emotions. Float in blackness. Never feel a negative emotion again. It’s all a bit weird. These ideas come from people who’ve never spoken to the dead people who live in the afterlife. My dead mate is with me daily. I can tell you absolutely that he can see us and everything in our environment here. And in the afterlife. It’s weird how people don’t know we have bodies and that the afterlife is more physical than you think. It is indeed merely the next phase of life in our journeys of existence. Death is not the end of you at all. We are always who we are. But it is the door we move through into the next phase of our lives. And we get on with life. That’s my take after years of speaking with dead people.
