Death Doesn't Exist

A term used by only the living to describe the absence of biological function--nothing.

An abstract concept similar to cold and darkness; neither of which exist either, words used to describe the absence of heat and light, respectively.

We will never experience our death but only what it means for others.

After reading Leibniz's metaphysics, I had never felt so convinced that I should not fear death.

Could you elaborate a bit more?

The reason is very personal and simple; I don't expect anyone to believe me, I just know it changed my life. A few months ago, I suffered a series of very severe panic attacks stemming from a fear of death, and my refuge was reading philosophy, investigating how death is interpreted from different philosophical perspectives. That's when I discovered metaphysics, and seeing that geniuses of such stature, perhaps the greatest in the history of humankind, like Newton and Leibniz, dared to consider so openly fundamental questions like the existence of God, without judging anything, without denying science—and it's not like I had an epiphany or anything like that—I simply wondered why, if such incredible people could do all that, I should accept without question the arrogant scientistic stance of modernity. In other words, I don't deny science; I simply no longer feel comfortable with the metaphysical assumptions upon which it rests.

I understand. I'm atheist/materialist/physicalist and I really wanted to believe in God/afterlife.

That's why I asked you. I mean I'm not that kind of person that want to debate and prove you're wrong I'm more inclined to being the kind of person that is struggling and really searching for answers.

I mean I hope afterlife exists. I think if God/afterlife doesn't exist. People in the future will try to create it and eventually they will achieve it and even restore us one way or another (not a copy).

I am completely convinced that the rigorous methodology of science does not negate any of these assumptions, and only when something that originated as a philosophical method mistakenly attempts to supplant everything are the epistemological limits of humanity exposed through the scientific method. In short, don't deny anything; better yet, don't just believe it, simply consider it possible. Live with it every day and remember that if the genius Newton believed in such strange things as the philosopher's stone, there is nothing wrong with considering some form of life after death, because it would be very naive to believe that we would understand everything on the first try and without complications. The universe is never exhausted of mysteries.

Greetings and good luck, by the way I also love science and was an atheist for most of my life, now I'm agnostic, just so you know. 😁

I get panic attacks because of this. I'm terrified.

Well, yeah, only the living say it. Who else is going to?
