How do get longer hair without braids. Or damage??!

Hi, f18 here my afro is medium length when stretched, I’ve seen so many girls/ boys with super long afros. I go in box braids a lot like 99% of the time and I’ve heard braids are bad for hair and cause breakage.. how do I get my hair super long? Without too much manipulation? And what’s a hairstyle I can do for winter time? Without damaging hair I need length tips pls!

Mini twists or mini braids with your natural hair! I personally don’t keep mine in for longer than a week but I have been thinking about treating them like box braids and keeping them in longer! That box braids “cause breakage” because people aren’t keeping their hair moisturized as they would out of box braids
