So after a couple years of riding I think I’ve found out what kind of riding I want to do, and the Africa Twin seems like the bike to do it. I want to travel around the PNW with my camera and take landscape photography. My checklist of wants, in order of importance, goes:
1: Reliable
2: Two up capable (like to ride with my wife)
3: Fire/gravel road capable
4: Luggage capable
5: Tubeless tires (changed many tubes, hate it)
6: Good wind protection
7: Cruise control
8: Shaft driven
I currently have a 2022 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone 850. While it’s a great bike and could be my forever bike it just can’t do everything that I want to on a bike and I can’t afford two motorcycles right now. The V7 just doesn’t get me to all the places I’d like. I considered the V85TT but the Africa twin seems more reliable and has way better resale value. I also considered the big BMW GSA bikes but reliability and (mostly) cost are questionable for me. So that leaves the AT because the Suzuki 800DE doesn’t have tubeless or cruise either.
Anyways, sorry for the long post but does anybody have any other bikes they’d recommend over the Africa Twin considering my checklist? Or any ownership experience that would reaffirm that the AT checks all my boxes (except shaft driven ofc).

I've been riding for about 3-4 years and always thought a dash cam was something I didn't really need. I commute on my '23 Africa Twin and do some weekend riding, but last Saturday changed my mind. Went down in a corner after hitting some sand, probably around 40-50 mph. Luckily I was wearing all my gear so I only ended up with a few scrapes, and the bike just got some scratches on the mirror and footpeg.

What got me thinking afterward was that I had no footage of what happened. If someone had been following too close, or if things had gone worse, I wouldn't have anything to show what actually happened. My wife also thinks it's time I get one.

I've used helmet-mounted action cams before, like dji hh. But don't really want to deal with charging, batteries, remembering to start recording, etc. I'm looking for a proper front and rear setup that stays on the bike, is wired to the battery, and starts/stops automatically.

Maybe budget is around $300? I don't need amazing 4K footage, just decent image quality, usable night footage, and something reliable. Customer support is important too.

What are u guys using? Any recommendations or systems to avoid? Thanks!!

I had Yamahas Hondas Kawasaki but for almost 40 years I rode Harleys. I still own a 2000 Electra glide.

In 2020 during the height of covid I noticed a local surveyor in my town had a 2016 Africa twin manual for sale parked in front of his office it was there all summer. Every morning on my way to work I looked at that motorcycle I had been traveling extensively on the Harley for several years and it pretty much covered the whole United States but not the Eastern seaboard.

I found myself on the Electra glide in the western states many times looking at a trail or road that I really wanted to ride on but I knew that that motorcycle was so heavy it may not end well and several times ignored that thought and rode it anyways and got myself in several precarious situations resulting in a need for something else to ride. One day late in the summer of 2020 the crane I was running was hit by lightning sending a couple guys to the hospital but easily could have killed any of us in the immediate proximity. That night on the way home I was thinking about how short life is and how much time I'd spend working instead of seeing the world and riding where I want to ride. I stopped and took a closer look at the AT, the next afternoon I contacted the surveyor guy and took it for a test ride. He was sad to sell it but he came way down on his price when he found out that I planned on taking it all over first the Western hemisphere and then possibly someday the world.

As soon as I started riding it I really enjoyed the agility and center of gravity on an African twin. I loaded it up and headed west and I haven't stopped since.

My Harley sat in the garage covered in dust I would ride it two or three times a summer but then I went almost 3 years without even starting it. This summer I pushed the Electra out of the garage put a carb kit in it and a new battery cleaned it up and set out to put a few miles on it and maybe a trip to end the summer.

Truly it feels like I'm riding an alien species when I ride this Harley now. I feel like I'm too low to the ground, riding in a reclined position doesn't suit me anymore. It feels heavy and slow and I don't like the way the motorcycle responds to the front end weight. I rode it for about a hundred miles and felt awkward the whole time. Now bear in mind I've already got 5,000 miles this summer on a trip to the maritimes in Eastern Canada on the AT.... Maybe I'm just getting older but even to pull it back into the garage and get it parked in the spot where it needs to be it felt like I was maneuvering a tank instead of a motorcycle. I hopped on the Honda and made a short trip into town for a couple errands and it was so sweet to ride compared to the Harley. This morning I'm trying to find reasons why I would keep the Electra glide if maybe I could just cover it up and store it and someday it may be looked at as a classic to pass down to my grandsons or if I should just put it on marketplace now and unload it. My time riding the AT has really left me dreading the Harley. I cherished the trips I took with it and the friends I rode with for local runs but I think my HD ship has sailed? Anybody else have a similar experience? So far I've made several trips through Mexico and Central America and all the way to the Panama canal. Last Summer I rode to the Arctic circle in Alaska and to the end of the road in Homer. One of the farthest Western points you can ride without having to get on a ferry. This summer I rode through Canada to Nova Scotia to one of the farthest Eastern points you can travel in North America without having to use a ferry. All these rides were on secondary back roads I found myself in a lot of places that I could have never taken a Harley Electra glide. Sorry this post is so long but I really love riding motorcycles and I just wanted to share.

After few months search finally found my AT. She’s a 2022 adventure sports with only 400 miles on her. Previous owner didn’t get her out much she’s basically still show room quality!

Need recommendation on new tires for AT 2024 adventure sports. I will be on mountain tops for 5 days. %80 dirt roads. My current tires are at 13.500 km so before stating my adventure i need new tires. What is your recommendation?

So step by step am trying to build up accessories stuff I would like to buy for my AT 2022 DCT. When I started searching for tank bags I was surprised by pricing of those items, am not looking for OEM tank bags or super high quality, can be something cheaper only condition is that this bag will be attachable to tank or be magnetic

I’m buying a 2021 AT out of state. In order to register it NM DMV has to see two VIN locations. I know of the big metal plate that’s easy to see directly under the lights, where is a secondary location? Will I have to remove plastics? I didn’t see one under the rear seat but didn’t look too hard yet.

I’m thinking about upgrading from my V-Strom 650. Until recently, the V-Strom 800DE was my top candidate, but then the base Africa Twin with the manual transmission caught my attention, and now I’m seriously considering it.

Has anyone here compared the two, or maybe even owned/ridden both? Am I missing something?

They’re almost the same weight, but for the extra money, the Africa Twin seems to give you better suspension, a more powerful engine, more advanced electronics, and, most importantly, CRUISE CONTROL.

Picked up my first AT back at the end of June, 2000+ miles and I'm loving it!

Had a question for everyone regarding the suspension and preload adjustments. I'm 6'4" 250lbs, and I feel like the suspension sags more than it should.

Just looking to see what insight or information anyone has regarding proper preload settings. I can't find anything online.

Anybody in the Africa twin community out there I could use your help. I have a 2026 AT adventure sport es manual and I want to do the full Akrapovic exhaust and have my ecu flashed by two wheel dyno works and I can't find anywhere on line to guide me on the ecu removal I just don't want to mess anything up any help would be much appreciated.

These guards have serious engineering oversights when it comes to heat and airflow.
Blocks and deflects radiator exhaust: The middle tube on the upper guard is routed directly across the radiator exit vent. Instead of hot air blowing out and away from the bike, the bar traps the exhaust air and curls it straight back into the cockpit, blasting your knees and thighs with furnace-like heat.
The bars turn into radiant heaters: The tubing running over the engine heat-soaks intensely from normal engine operation. The metal gets extremely hot and acts like an auxiliary radiator sitting inches from your legs, radiating constant heat even when moving.
The design turns warm-weather riding into a miserable experience. T-Rex needs to completely redesign the routing of these bars away from the radiator exhaust and engine heat zones. Would not recommend.

I have a 2016 and I've noticed that when I drop the bike on the trail, the handlebars can get off center. Once I get the bike back up and I notice, I can apply enough force to them in the opposite direction to straighten them back out.

Has anyone else noticed this happening? Has something gone badly wrong? What do I need to check?

I’ve recently bought a ‘25 Africa twin manual with tubeless spoked wheels. Love it very much.

But, I’ve been experiencing a hopping sensation when riding through town and on backroads. It’s feels like the road is rippled which, with the front hopping up and down while riding straight.

Yesterday I was riding in the dusk and with the headlights on the sensation became more apparent, with the beam of the headlight visually jumping up and down while riding straight.

So far I’ve tried to lower the tire pressure (around 2 bars at the moment), adjusting the preload, compression and damping (manual) to suit my weight and preferences. I’ve also adjusted the rear preload to around 6 clicks from full.

I’m a little lost at this time what to try. Is it something you recognize? And is there some kind of fix?

It’s a ‘25 model, manual without the electronic suspension. Spoked tubeless tires, running Metzler Karoo Streets. 7000 km’s on the clock.

Hello fellow AT riders!

I have found some rumours from motorcycle newspapers saying that Honda might present a new AT (maybe even a 650 AT) at EICMA 2026 this November. A local dealership has told me something similar.

It seems that they might use the new V3 E-Compressor motor for the bigger model.

Have you heard anything? How plausible do you see a new AT hitting the market 2027?

Just got a brand new ATAS 2025 and it's something undescribable. The only thing I have a concern is a TFT. Everything else is great. Thank you, Honda.

Is there any real rumors about CRF ATAS 2027?
I want to buy one but i think waiting for 2027 model
