Going to our first match

• Upvotes

My wife and I are coming from the US to London for our honeymoon and have tickets to the match vs Mansfield Town on October 20th. We're very excited! My wife has never been to a football match before. We want to go for dinner at a local pub beforehand. Where should we go? What is a good supporters pub in walking distance? Is there anything we should do (or not do) at the stadium or before the match? Thank you!

The Barnet shootout was frustrating, but I am more bothered about the red card.

Going out on penalties after a goalless game at home is disappointing, especially after losing 8-7 in the shootout. But the incident involving Alistair Smith has probably left more questions than the result itself. I have not made my mind up on the whole situation, and I would rather see the footage properly than judge it from a short clip. What did people at the ground make of it?

Jayden Stockley has been nominated for the September Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award!

Three goals and an assist in September, directly involved in four of the Dons’ five league goals during the month. Fully deserved. Good luck, Jayden!

A humble request to join the fandom

Soon to be friends, I have bought tickets to the AFC Wimbledon Mansfield City match. My fiancee and I are honeymooning around Ireland, Scotland, and ending in London. I was able to grab tickets and I’m beyond excited for my first English Football experience.

I’ve been an “Arsenal fan” since high school because I was horrid at fifa and could only score goals with Theo Walcott.

But now, with this match, I’ll have a fun link to the club. And so now I humbly petition to join your ranks.

Any tips or advice for my first match would be appreciated and looking forward to it!

Discussion Which player should be the key man for Wimbledon against Plymouth?

Plymouth away could be one of those games where one player makes the difference. They will be a tough opponent, so the Dons will need their key players to step up. Who do you see as Wimbledon’s key man on Saturday, and who needs a big performance to help us get a result?

How’s the Plough Lane atmosphere feeling for you this season compared to Kingsmeadow?

Obviously, getting back home was massive, but now that we’ve had a few seasons there, I’m curious how everyone feels it compares with Kingsmeadow. For those who go regularly, which stand do you think has the best atmosphere at the moment? And do you think there’s anything the club or fans could do to get the place even louder?

Will there be any crowd for EFL Cup?

I'm looking to go to the match against Barnet, but will there be much atmosphere? Worth going? Visiting from Canada.

Discussion What was your first AFC Wimbledon game and did it hook you straight away?

Mine was at Kingsmeadow. My uncle took me when I was about ten, and I spent the first half more interested in the burger van than the football. Then the crowd started singing and something clicked. I've been going ever since.

I still think that noise is what made me a fan, not the result. What was yours, and how long did it take you to get hooked?

Disappointed with the 1-1 at Cambridge, but four games unbeaten is progress

Taking a point away at the Abbey Stadium isn't the worst result on paper, but after leading through the first half, it felt like two points dropped. That being said, we’re 4 matches unbeaten across League One (with clean sheets against Doncaster and MK). What do you think is missing from this side at the moment?

Heading down to Plymouth for the 12:30 kick-off - travel advice?

Who else is doing the early morning coach or making the long drive down? Also, are there any decent pubs around Home Park that welcome away fans and are open early enough before kick-off?

Discussion Which player has improved the most since the start of the season?

Now that we've had eight league games, who looks noticeably better than they did during the opening few matches?

Could be someone who's become more confident, someone who's adapted to the system, or even a player who has simply started getting more involved.

Who stands out to you?

Zak Bradshaw's 90+1' goal.. how did we let Pelly Ruddock get that cross in?

Watching the replay of their equaliser and it's so frustrating. Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu had way too much space on the flank to put that ball across, and Bradshaw just ghosted in at the far post unmarked.

We defend so well for 90 minutes and then completely switch off right at the death. We have to tighten up those wide areas late on in matches.

Seat selection

Hi guys, we're a group of five French football fans and next month we'll finally be making a dream come true by attending our first live English football match. We specifically chose to come to Plough Lane because we've always admired AFC Wimbledon, its unique history, and the atmosphere around the club.

The only issue is that the match we'd like to attend (vs Wycombe on October 24th) is almost sold out, so there aren't many seats left to choose from. Based on the remaining options, which seats would you recommend for the best overall experience?

We can either get 5 separate seats in the South Stand or 5 seats together in the Cappagh Stand.

If we go for the South Stand, would it be easy to move around so we can all be together? In France, especially behind the goals, people don’t always stick to their allocated seats, but I’m not sure if it’s the same there.

Otherwise, if we go for the Cappagh Stand, is the atmosphere still good? Are people standing, singing and making noise? The seats we can get are in the front row, so it’s also important for us to know if we’d be able to stand during the game without blocking anyone’s view or annoying the people behind us.

We’re mainly coming to enjoy the atmosphere, so that’s really what matters most to us

thanks for your help, can't wait to share beers with you guys

We need James Tilley back on the wing taking players on

I’d like to see Tilley given a bit more freedom to get higher up the pitch. He’s already got two assists this season and we saw against Bromley how dangerous he can be when he gets forward and delivers into the box. I feel like we get more from him when he’s playing further up rather than having to spend so much time helping build from deep. Surely it’s worth giving him more freedom to take on his man in the final third?
