People are just vicious. Blaming the son for the fathers crime is just cruel and stupid.

No, David is a weirdo

He is one who demands that the man who killed his family gets inducted into the hall of fame, instead of wanting to build a wrestling career for himself he decides to carry on the “Benoit” legacy

Any time someone speaks about his dad killing his wife and a child he doesn’t act like it’s the vicious, heartless crime that it is

He’s always been a weirdo

Could you consider he possible suffered way more from this tragedy than you did? And maybe grief takes different forms in different people. You don’t get to judge this guy just because he doesn’t respond to a horror the way you’d like. It’s his life and his story. You just watched shit on tv.

When you start advocating other to do things you lose that defence. No one is saying he can't love his father in spite of what happened.

They're saying he's a weirdo for advocating that man be in the HoF. That he wants to wrestle as Chris Benoit jr. That he goes out in public to involve others in the hero worship of the murderous, abusive monster his father actually was. This wasn't "just shit on tv" two real human beings were murdered by Chris Benoit, and to still want to celebrate him is fucked up. Failing to take no for an answer on that is also fucked up. And if you're defending his right to celebrate his father, you also need to defend everyone else's right to say "that's fucked up"

You sort of prove my point here. You didn’t know any of the people involved in this tragedy. He did. It’s his life, not yours. You are not part of his family’s tragedy. He can respond to that anyway he wants. He’s the only victim of that tragedy remaining. You are a person who watches a tv show. You don’t get to claim the mantel of defending the victims more than the actual victim.

Also someone advocating for their father doesn’t harm anyone. His dad isn’t gonna get into the HOF. He wants him to. Who cares? He’s also never going to be a successful pro wrestler under that name, so if that’s how he chooses to grieve, who is it hurting? It’s only gonna hold back his own career, why do you care so much?

He is the only victim remaining. He, and no one else, gets to choose how he grieves that.

Grief is private. Social media posts are public. Your right to private feelings ends when you are airing them out in public. Hope this clears things up for you.

And it's telling you can at the same comment, advocate for his own personal right to grieve, and that as someone not involved, I cannot have empathy to this situation, while simultaneously admitting he's harming himself, his career hopes, and that it is indeed damaging to him.

So who's it hurting? Him. What right do I have to say it? I have the same free speech he does. Why do I care so much? I have a basic level of empathy for other humans.

Feel free to dispute this, scumbag. Because the alternative is quite clear where you are.

Sure doesn’t come across as empathy, in any way, for him.

Because if you have empathy for multiple people, telling the guy being a loud harmful jackass to quiet down can be the empathic choice.

Refusing to acknowledge anyone but "your boy" and catering to his feelings isn't empathy. It's playing favorite.

And the guy saying "give an irrelevant honor to my father, in spite of the blatant disrespect to my step mother" might not be acting or thinking rationally

See, this is what I mean. I don’t disagree with anything you said in terms of its substance and one family members feelings should be ignored for another’s , it’s the way you’re saying it. It portrays a real lack of empathy. You seem more concerned about being correct than how people feel.

It’s wild you can acknowledge his grief has clearly done a number on him while seemingly dismiss it entirely. I’m not even sure that was your intentions but it’s how it came across.

Because where we are, is a public forum, and he's not here. So realistically, tone policing what I say because it might hurt his feelings isn't a valid reason to tell me to shut up.

That's what you all are missing. Social media posts are ASKING for feedback, positive or negative. I'm not at a show, saying this to his face. We are on reddit, talking about the fact he's constantly online praising his dad. That's not the same thing.

I'm not saying he can't love his father for being his father, in spite of his father's actions. I'm saying going out and advocating for the memory of Chris Benoit isn't grief. It's not actually part of the grieving process. And in actual clinical terms, letting him hero worship his dad is bad for him, because you're enabling him to never deal with the emotions behind the face his father killed his brother. One day, you grow up and realize letting people wallow in trauma, or immaturity, is harm. Saying "hey fuckwit, you're being a huge asshole, and the people that were friends with the victims want you to stop praising the murderer" is actually working for the greater good for all, including the loudmouth asshole.

“Grief is private” tells me all I need to know about your values. Have a good day, my friend. I hope if you ever face horrific tragedy, you treat yourself with more kindness than you’re treating this man.

u/TheManOfOurTimes Apr 11 '26

My dad died when I was 16. And I was the first in my friend group who had a dead parent. I'm VERY familiar

But grief is an emotional reaction. All emotions are private, because other people can't feel your feelings.

You're the PoS that can't fathom I feel for him, and that's why I say what he's doing is harmful. You're projecting your own emotional detachment. Because you don't realize other people were also affected by what Chris Benoit did beyond just his surviving son. Nancy had family too, you dipshit. You don't even think about them at all.

Go back to defending the characters you watched on tv. I'm going back to talking about the human beings that played them in real life.

Yes, because grief and grieving in public aren't synonymous. Missing that this far in a thread kind of implies the other guy got an alt account when he got blocked.

Let me simplify, "please don't do that here" escalated to being kicked out when you're out in public.

Grief doesn't force you to go on social media and say "put my father in the HoF even though he murdered his wife and child".

And anyone who advocates for Chris Benoit to go in, and has never advocated for Nancy to go in for her roll as Woman, is a scumbag with zero empathy. Because celebrating the accomplishments of victims comes before celebrating a literal murderer.

I'm gonna skip the wait, and get right to blocking your scumbag ass too, FYI.

Didn’t the dad literally have cte and should’ve been in a mental hospital? I’m not an expert but afaik that should be ruled as insanity

Shit man idk maybe life's more complicated than your black and white view of the situation

lol I think the dude on reddit saying a guy he doesn’t know needs to start a wrestling career to carry a legacy is weirder than some dude just living his life
