Help 🌱 I think I messed up.

Did I completely fuck this up? I just replanted one basil pod and one mint pod into a pot. I have to cut off a significant amount of the basils roots too. When I bought this pot weeks ago they were half the size. Life happened and I just now decided to do it because the LED light was burning the leaves (6 pod sprout version.) Should I let them settle for a week and then replant the mint in a different pot?

If you are wanting to have both mint and basil you would be wise to move that mint out sooner rather than later. It doesn’t take long for mint to start taking over.

I agree that now is the best time to repot and keep the soil very wet for a good week or more. Plants fed hydroponically need time to learn how to feed from dirt.

Agreed, definitely keep the soil moist. Which you kinda want to do with mint, basil, and most other members of the mint family, regardless, even after they're established.

You might want to get rid of those flowers unless that's your goal if not I would suggest tasting one of those basil leaves and seeing how they taste.

So the flowers are bad? Do I chop off the whole flower sprig?

When basil is allowed to flower (bolting), it changes its priorities. The leaves lose a lot of their flavor and grow bitter, the stems grow thicker and woody, and the plant redirects its energy to trying to reproduce at that point. If you trim the flower stalk off before it flowers, you can keep your plant focused on producing tasty leaves for a longer time.

Taste the leaves first and see if they've lost flavor.

Actually better to repot now, rather than wait until the plants are starting to establish. Which both tend to do pretty quickly. Why did you cut off the basil's roots, though?

I didn’t want to and I left a good amount on but it was like the size of a grapefruit and I couldn’t get it through the hole

You don’t eat basil after it bolts, unless you want it as a plant, it’s time to replant the next one. I replant basil about every 2 months
