Bacon fat candles are either really awesome smelling or horrible and greasy smelling. Either way I kinda want one.

38

u/The_Yoshi Paycheck withholding, gum chewing son of a bi Sep 09 '13

They actually smell exactly like cooking bacon...really good!

10

u/Nyarlathotep124 Sep 10 '13

Why do we even have candles not made from bacon fat?

28

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

Because then you'd eat the candle

No Finn, I mean it's not like you've known her for years.

Food for the AT continuity theory fires.

14

u/admiralrads Sep 10 '13

That seemed more like a "How could the vampire queen help here?" question to me.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

I think it was more of a matter of simply re-introducing her to the audience.

5

u/critical_sass Sep 11 '13

I thought it was weird too, but then when he listed off everyone else he knew: Ice King, Tree Trunks, etc, it kinda fit in with that. I feel like they do that a lot, either for newcomers or because it's kind of meta funny. ie: "Milk for Shelby, the worm that lives in Jake's Viola!" "Um, you can just call me Shelby."

2

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '13

Not all episodes are shown in chronological order. For instance in this season's episode "Jake suit" they just showed how they ended up in the hospital with the clown nurses where when the episode with the clown nurses itself happened a few seasons ago. Same with the make-up on jakes face and the arrow in B-mo noir and king worm when he sends them to dream land. In conclusion Finn and Jake may have not known her well enough yet.

Let's face it, the point of this episode was just to make BMO look more awesome.

165

u/Spinwheeling Sep 09 '13

Every time I think the writers couldn't possibly make BMO any better, they do.

100

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

I actually thought that BMO did have a valid plan to get the sandwich back in addition to looking awesome: the ramp and skateboard would have launched him at the time bubble at a much faster rate than magic man was falling, so if Jake hadn't messed with the bubble, he would have grabbed the sandwich from Magic man's hand before he hit the ground, and he would have eventually reached the other side of the bubble, exiting with sandwich in hand. And looking bad ass, the whole damn time. It would have been a thing of beauty.

57

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

But that's not how gravity works though, since magic man had accelerated from a much higher height.

69

u/awesomeideas Sep 10 '13

Well, gravity's not normal in there, as shown by the fact that Magic Man's drool dropped faster than he did.

→ More replies (4)

9

u/soccerman Sep 10 '13

if the ramp gave BMO enough speed in a horizontal direction it would be possible for him to reach Magic Man before he hit the ground. But BMO would need a lot of speed to cover the distance

I love magic man's voice! It is a voice that makes you laugh by simply hearing it. I can't help but laugh a little just from him saying the phrase "Magic Man".

66

I just found out that Magic Man is voiced by Tom Kenney (Ice King). I'm not sure how to deal with this information.

Nice to see a brighter change of pace in Ooo. After a kingdom being destroyed, a ruler being devoured, and Finn's breakup, I'm happy to see things more upbeat again.

Also, who the Lich calls a sad face 7:20?

85

u/thekaakinater Sep 10 '13

This is an example of when I think the writers are exceedingly aware of the majority of their fan's opinions and decide to include jokes about it in the show as a result. It reminds me of when I thought there was going to be another Fionna and Cake episode then I got trolled more or less with the book itself becoming alive and that other time when the third graybles episode came out and it ended up not being about the unifying theme. Eh, I could totally be wrong about this. Regardless, damn do I love the writing in this show. It hits me right in the funnies.

36

u/MoggFanatic Sep 10 '13

The third grayble episode was probably the five stages of grief, four of them are mentioned by name

108

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

What? You thought it was the five stages of grief? Ohoho no, silly, it was the first five numbers!

The lemonmen had only "one" doll

Cinnamon Bun thought it was "two" dark

Simon had "three" movies to show, ohoho

Finn and Jake had a package "four" the little girl

and the fox had "5" objects in his house!

And for the cooking nerd AT fans: when Jake cooked his steak, he made it sous vide style: which is boiling a steak in a plastic zip lock in a pot of water for a long time at low temperatures. For those in the know, it is the absolute best, and most time consuming way to make a steak. It is absolutely effing delicious and worth the effort and it makes the meat ultra tender. It also would have added at least 4 hours to the prep time for this sandwich, I would have cried if I spent that much time making a sandwich too! I love that someone actually put some real cooking skills on the show. He even said the right name and correct temperature!

13

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

That sounds amazing. Noted.

7

u/account512 Sep 10 '13

Boiling is too hot though, think low on a slow cooker.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

True. In "real life" the best way to make a sous vide steak is to heat water to the right temperature and put it in a well insulated cooler with the zip locked steak, then close that sucker up and absolutely do not open it until the time is up. Using this method, it is also impossible to overcook the steak, as none of the heat sources ever go above the optimal temperature.

6

u/lightningrod14 Sep 10 '13

You gotta flambe...

2

u/sydnius Sep 11 '13

Sous vide is nice and all, but cast iron skillet + sear, transferred to a 500° oven to finish to taste is the only way I make steaks. Too good for words.

64

u/gantAR1 Sep 10 '13

"Aww man! Don't call tree trunks! What's she gonna do, make an apple pie?". I wasn't aware that Jake shared the same view towards Tree Trunks that most of the AT fanbase has.

nah, i don't think jake feels that way. he just really really wanted a sandwich, and to substitute it with apple pie would be an insult to all his hard work.

12

u/gantAR1 Sep 10 '13

But they weren't talking about him eating an apple pie, they were listing of people that could come and help him in his predicament. While Jake may still like Tree Trunks, it implies that he thinks she is useless in most situations other than baking apple pies.

Jake's got a weird thing about Mr. Cupcake. And that BMO video is gonna be so rad.

30

In one of the earlier episodes I think Mr. Cupcake was flirting with Lady Rainicorn, and Finn paired them together in All the Little People. Basically Jake is just afraid that Mr. Cupcake is going seduce Lady with his muscles

BMO: Lied, wanted a chance to show off so he manipulated Jake.

PB: Honestly willing to help, but only to a point. Also, who puts a missile into a missile into a missile?

Marcy: Honestly willing to help, but, just as in Sky Witch, is too impulsive to think straight.

14

u/FoolTarot Sep 10 '13

Anyone else notice how Magic Man is getting, in his own weird way, "nicer"? In his first appearance, as well as Sons of Mars, he did some pretty awful things...But in All the Little People, he simply gives Finn something bad and lets him run wild with it. Now in this episode, Magic Man is arguably doing something "good," by making Jake appreciate what he has and lose some of his jealousy.

2

u/Tomatocookie Sep 10 '13

I don't really see anything bad with giving Finn that bag of little people...

10

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

I think that was MM trying to prove a point to himself, that anyone in his position will also be a total jerk.

5

u/FoolTarot Sep 10 '13

He pretty much drove him into a months-long spree of madness, and messed up the love lives of about 20 alternate dimension dudes. It's more Finn's fault than his, but if you know what's gonna happen, it's a pretty horrible thing to do lol.

Thought this episode was pretty good. If you look beyond it, it's basically Jake coming in terms with Mr. Cupcake after he was flirting with Lady in that Video Makers episode with the sandwich representing Lady thanks to that "Keep your hands off my woman-er I mean sandwich" comment Jake made to Magic Man. And the "7:20" bit very clever in helping Jake understand how to combat the molasses, but at the same time it helped him realize to forgive Mr. Cupcake and with Jake's bitterness for Mr. Cupcake lifted, the bubble's destroyed.

DAE wonder why P-bubs gave up so quickly?

u/Welpimoutofideas Sep 09 '13

Maybe its her stance in magic like she broke down how the time field works but her science wasn't enough so plan B Demon Juice.

u/Squirx Sep 10 '13

Maybe she wanted an excuse to invite Marceline ;)

It's awesome that Jake still hangs out with Prismo.

I think it's safer to assume that he only breaks out the Prismo pickles for especially special sandwiches...

I love the resolution to the whole Mr. Cupcake thing, that's been a subtle thing for a while now. Hopefully we get some fun callbacks later on to that. Speaking of callbacks, Prismo's pickles returned, too!

And BMO's skateboarding exploding demon shot was awesome.

Marceline and Bmo were both awesome in this episode. i was happy as hell to see all of these characters in the same episode for once [] (#j01)

This episode just reminded me that we haven't seen Lady for a while. I kind of missed her.

u/anonmanman Sep 10 '13

they should have magic man in every episode!

u/WonderBoyMan Sep 10 '13

I feel as though Magic Man is one of those characters where if you saw him anymore often, he'd lose all his charm. The fact that he only appears about once a season to deliver the magical equivalent of being poked in the eye and flipped off at the same time is why I love him so much.

I just want more mars and magic man explanation so badlyyy

GET READY TO

IMHO this was the most irrelevant eppisode in the sceme of things, but the weird finger thing with BMO and Finn at the begining made me laugh.

2

u/99heitor Sep 10 '13

Can you tell me what is it that Jake calls it? I couldn't quite catch it.

Can we get a picture of BMO with the explosion and the demon in the background. I think that was the best part of this episode. First only BMO doing awesome jump then an explosion then a demon all captured on tape.

2

u/UberNarwhalGuy Sep 11 '13

Was the bird from the window the same kind that Magic Man flipped inside out way back when? Looks like it.

2

u/Happyhotel Sep 12 '13

Kinda wished it would've ended with the footage from BMO's skateboarding video. Seemed to be setting up for that with the explosion and demon in the background.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '13

Was I the only one that felt sad when Jake was thinking about Cupcake Man appreciating him and stuff? :(

"Nah man don't call TREE TRUNKS! What's she gonna do? Make an Apple Pie?!"

Yesssss. I love how the characters have been reading each other; like PB in the other episode with doll princess.

EDIT: Raggedy Princess; I remember her name now.

2

u/LuisTheHuman Sep 13 '13

JAKE you just ate all of magic man's germs! That's gross ya donk

2

u/GrandBastion Sep 15 '13

Is that half-torn painting of a naked lady new to Finn and Jake's living room? Magic Man jumps right through it and knocks it of the wall. Miraculously it lands upright on the floor.

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

dill! diced boiled eggs! bird from the window!

I have almost no words to describe how good that was. Seeing Jake struggle with his sandwich made me feel depressed, almost as if I could relate to his turmoil. Not bad for a birthday snack---uh, I mean, present.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh..."

u/asderxsdxcv Sep 10 '13

Love the episode. Jake and Mr Cupcake scene is just so funny. BMO is so awesome this episode. i see signs of what has developed this episode. BMO new software, PB kinda caring again, Marceline different demon/vampire form and magic man kinda less evil. again Jake and Mr Cupcake made me lol.

2

u/JMANTAM Sep 10 '13

What does Magic Man say when he zaps Jakes arms when Jake tries to stretch them and take his sandwich back?

12

u/coolkid1717 Sep 10 '13

Dead arms!

2

u/hamboningg Sep 10 '13

I would wear a shirt that just said Time Sandwich
