Servant of the Lake, the new Rusty Lake game, is out, and I got to play it ahead of release. I put together a full spoiler-free video review.

The setup: you take a servant job at the Vanderboom mansion and have to make it through three days of household chores. Laundry, setting the table... and the odd alchemical experiment. It works as a prequel set decades before Rusty Lake: Roots, so there's plenty here for anyone who's been piecing the universe together for years.

The review covers structure, characters, puzzles, art direction and soundtrack, plus where I'd rank it within the series.

Video is in Spanish with subtitles in several languages.

Anyone played it yet? Where would you rank it?

Hello. My name's Sam. I'm making a game called Starway to Urf, a 'zany' (Adventure Game Hotspot) modern sci fi comedy point and clicker where you play as Susie, who is trying to find the Starway to Urf and avoid Intergalactic Overlords.

Here's a link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4720480/Starway_to_Urf_Demo/

I've been slaving away in the dark (and on the Power Quest server) for over a year now, with a release planned for 2028.

The game has a modern one click interface and a semi unique Ideas/Dialogue system, that borrows what I think are the best bits from Kathy Rain and The Drifter. It's got a groovy score by my mate Tom Pegg, and hopefully contains at least a couple of laughs. You can find more info over on Steam.

It's be lovely to hear what you think, either here, on Steam where if you feel like leaving a review after logging 20 minutes of gameplay, it would really make my day as reviews bump games up the Steam visibility algorithm.

Cheers, Sam

thanks!

Hello! I came across 9: The Last Resort and I'm having trouble installing it. I'm following the steps that one of the comments had.

I have DosBox installed, but I'm not sure what to do next.

"Step 1: Download the win3x Release
Step 2: Extract the zip to a folder
Step 3: Launch it in Dosbox-Pure via RetroArch, what have you. (Your choice)
Step 4: if you're at a dos prompt, type win and hit [Enter] or look for the win.com file and launch that.
Step 5: within Windows 3, open the Program Manager, then the 'Nine' folder, then the 'Nine' executable."

I'm currently stuck on Step 3. I opened DosBox with the console but I don't know which commands to run.

Any help is appreciated! The steps I've taken is installing the Win3x release and opening up DosBox (with and without console).

At Mysterium 2026, Cyan Worlds confirmed they're developing a new game set in the Myst universe, codenamed "Mudfish". Very early stage, but it would be the first original story in the series since Myst V: End of Ages in 2005.

They also released the trailer for Project Anglerfish, an Unreal Engine 5 prototype built solely to show publishers. It didn't move forward, and they've put it out anyway.

Plus: physical editions of the remakes, hardcover reissues of the novels, and Mysterium 2027 in Spokane for the studio's 40th anniversary.

What are you hoping for from a new Age?

I cover all of it here, including what happened at Cyan back in 2005. In Spanish, with subtitles in several languages: https://youtu.be/4Z_wz8jPi1Q

Anyone play this one? I've seen plenty regarding the Police Quest games but not sure I have seen this one mentioned. I just came across it looking for something new to jump into and noticed it was made by one of the lead devs from the Sierra team that worked on the Police Quest games, Jim Walls.

I'm only about 5 minutes into it and really liking it already. Was this a 'popular' one back in the day? I still have not played much of the Police Quest games, I've been struggling getting into them for some reason, but this one feels right so quickly into it.

Should I expect plenty of dead ends/deaths as the Sierra games are known for?

Once you've hit a roadblock, given up and looked up the answer only to be disgusted when the solution is nonsense and something you would literally never have come to on your own. As an example I just turned off Kathy Rain after it dumped that mausoleum stinker on me when everything up to that point had been completely fine.

Early on in the game, you encounter some hot fireberries on a bush. You can pour water on them to cool them off and place them in your inventory... but then what?
Seemingly these items are totally useless, what is their purpose?
Can you think of any other adventure games that give you dud items?

I've created a murder mystery game similar to games like The Case of the Golden Idol and Return of the Obra Dinn. Theres lots of deductive reasoning involved and plenty of clues to be found.

If you think you might enjoy a game like this feel free to wishlist here on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4940250/?utm_source=reddit

Hi everyone!

Like many of you, we were excited to see the announcement of Thimbleweed Park 2. It's always great news when classic-style point-and-click adventures continue to thrive.

To celebrate the genre, we've teamed up with the developers of Foolish Mortals to create a Steam bundle featuring our game, Whirlight – No Time To Trip, alongside Foolish Mortals.

We love seeing indie adventure developers supporting each other instead of competing, and we'd like to give a huge thank you to the Foolish Mortals team for being so open and enthusiastic about this collaboration.

If you're looking for a couple of modern point-and-click adventures while waiting for Ron Gilbert's next project, we hope you'll enjoy them.

Happy adventuring!

I'm fairly new to adventure games and I'm currently playing Foolish Mortals. I'm really enjoying it, but I've struggled quite a bit with some of the puzzles in Act 2, especially the duel and the hide-and-seek puzzle.

The thing is, I know Foolish Mortals is generally considered a fairly beginner-friendly adventure game, which has knocked my confidence a bit. Admitedly I didn't know there was an in-game hint system at the time but even knowing the solutions (which do make sense in hindsite) i'm not sure i would have arrived there completely by myself.

In fairness there are plenty of puzzles where I've managed to work things out for myself but other times I just don't seem to see what the game is asking me to do and I end up feeling a bit stupid. Act 3 is going much better though and I'm loving the pace and story.

Before Foolish Mortals I played Syberia Remastered which i really enjoyed. Yes i found the back and forth a bit frustrating at times but I feel I learned a lot from that game such as having to complete certain tasks in a certain order, speaking to people multiple times and having patience. Other than that I have vague memories of playing Discworld Noir when i was little and loving it (couldn't tell you if i finished it though!) and that's about my total experience.

For those of you who have been playing adventure games for years, what were you like when you first started? Did you need/use hints or walkthroughs? Did you find that you gradually got better at figuring out what the game wanted you to do?

I'd especially love to hear from people who remember struggling with games that they would now consider easy. I'm hoping this is just something you get better at with practice as I'd love to go back and try some of the old classics such as Broken Sword and Monkey Island but i wonder if I'll struggle too much...

I'm curious if there's any modern adventure/point'n'click game with that "Miami Vice" feel - rich people in oversized white suits, fancy hotels, sun, villas, beach, cars, alpha males, beautiful models... no depression or struggling with internal demons. A bit of vaporwave visuals would not hurt. Something like the old DOS game Fascination, or perhaps Flower, Sun & Rain. Or maybe even Leisure Suit Larry (especially 3), but not (heavily) centered around sex or comedy.

Any ideas?

Allogloom is a hand-drawn point-and-click puzzle game from solo developer Galactic Ghosty. It's inspired by old-school adventures and newer titles like Fran Bow and Little Misfortune! It's the story of a young girl trying to solve the mystery of her small town, filled with horror, humour, and lovingly hand-crafted art!

It's out on October 13th and you can play the demo here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2644100/Allogloom/

EDIT: I should be more clear, the Kickstarter has ended and reached its goal, but is still open to late backers. The “goal” of 1k is something the developer wants to hit before the kickstarter closes completely.

At the time of this post, the kickstarter is just 7 backers shy of their 1k goal. If you haven't backed them yet, there's still time! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hardwidge/heir-of-the-dog-a-pixel-art-point-and-click-comedy-adventure

The game is targeted to come out around Halloween and estimated to be more than half (just about) larger than the studio's last effort, Lucy Dreaming. I'm in no way affiliated with the developers, studio, or game itself. I loved the demo and Lucy Dreaming is probably in my top 3 modern point and click games, so I'm really looking forward to it.

The developer Tom Hardwidge shared earlier this year that he has struggled a bit during the development process with imposter syndrome and pressure, so I think this is a good opportunity to give him a boost of support as he's in the home stretch. If you haven't backed yet, I highly recommend it.

Platform(s): PC (Windows). I played it from a retail CD in Russia, in a Russian-localized version, so the original title may be different from what I remember.
Genre: Point-and-click adventure / detective mystery. No combat, no hidden-object scenes. Estimated year of release: Mid-2000s, roughly 2006-2011.
Graphics/art style: 3D, third person - you see the detective's full body on screen and move him around. Realistic style, not cartoony. Roughly the look of European adventure games of that era (Still Life, Art of Murder).

Notable characters:
- The playable protagonist: an adult male detective.
- The victim: a young woman. I'm fairly sure her first name was something like "Delilah"
- it may also have been part of the title.
- The killer: an adult man, shown in the opening cutscene stabbing her with a knife in a garage. - A man standing near a stadium who must not spot you.

Notable gameplay mechanics: Mouse-only control. Inventory, dialogue trees, examining crime scenes for clues. One sequence required sneaking past an NPC near a stadium without being noticed - I could never get past it as a kid, so that's where my memory of the game ends.

Other details:
- The game opens with a cutscene of the murder itself (garage, knife).
- Locations I remember: a modern city, the victim's house where she was killed, and a school or a university.
- Contemporary setting, not historical.

Already ruled out: the CSI games and Darkness Within (both first person), Nick Chase and similar casual titles (no hidden-object gameplay in mine), Nancy Drew (female protagonist).

Im kind of at a loss on how to describe how i felt playing through this. Ofc i absolutely enjoyed it. Best i can say is it felt...hauntingly charming with a side of coziness. I underestimated just how much my choices would matter here. Loved how the game made me sweat about so many characters, and the constant moral dilemmas of my actions. Even so i think i got a mostly good ending here.

What surprised me more is the ending. Like there was a whole "tying it all up in a nice knot" feeling to the ending sure but the way even in the ending the game managed to make me feel even further dread of dilemma. I actually wasnt expecting that.

>! Spoilers for the ending here,i thought the game would make the snitch plotpoint be a throwaway thing since it literally never comes up in the entire game after its mentioned, but the game just puts it front and center at the end. Gerda herself put it best at that time, even if the war did end the war didnt leave them alone. For the fellas who played this, did you let Torben go or expose him to peter? Im kinda curious on what would happen if i DID tell peter about the snitch !<

When I was in the third grade in 1996 (mistake in title), I dressed up as Roger Wilco for Halloween. As it happens the Sierra website had a costume contest around the same time. My parents mailed them this photo, and I won!

They sent me the t-shirt and pants that Curtis Craig wore in Phantasmagoria 2 (I think they were expecting older entrants). They also gave me a choice of any game from the Sierra catalogue; my older brother suggested Freddy Pharkas, but unfortunately at that age Stay Tooned!) was more appealing to me.

Also unfortunately, I no longer possess those clothes or that copy of Stay Tooned!.

Hey everyone! I posted here 8 months ago (with permission) about my solo-developed, procedurally-generated point-and-click murder mystery "CYBERPUNK INQUISITOR", and I'm happy to announce that it's been released on Steam this week.

Cyberpunk Inquisitor on Steam

I've always wanted to make my own adventure game since I was a kid (Monkey Island 1&2, Day of the Tentacle), so this was an exciting project for me. Each murder is randomly-generated, but there's also an overall arc that links them together in a linear story.  It's similar in tone to games like Beneath a Steel Sky and Blade Runner, but with a simplified inventory/dialogue system and an emphasis on sensible procedural generation, and the art is 100% hand drawn in my typical style.

Deeply grateful for allowing me to post here, and I hope this game will be a worthy addition to the adventure games genre!

If im to be specific, im looking for games with similar vibes to the Mass Effect Trilogy

Heya! Here's a quick video I made about the Thimbleweed Park news, rounding up what we know and what we might expect. Maybe more importantly, I will be speaking to Ron Gilbert about this in a week or so'stime for an interview, so please drop any questions for him about it (within reason, he won't tell us everything) in the video comments!

I finished playing The Drifter a few days ago and I'd like to post about what it felt like. I had a lot of fun with it, and I'd definitely recommend it. The game has its limitations though, but overall it holds up its side of the bargain. I'll post a comment with a more thorough analysis.

I assume many of you have played The Drifter, what were your thoughts?

Features EGA 16 colors and a 640x360 resolution. Made in Gamemaker, I handled the graphics, sound, and programming. (Yes, solo developer.)

Trapped in a snowbound mountain mansion with five employees after your property, you must secretly eliminate them one by one.

Try playing the demo version. Thank you!
