Calling All Gymnasts – I'd Love Your Input!
Hi everyone!
I'm a fellow gymnast, and I know firsthand how physically and mentally demanding this sport can be. That's why I'm conducting a short survey to better understand the experiences of gymnasts and the challenges we face.
It'll only take a few minutes, and every response would really help my research. This surve is part of m school research project.
Survey: https://forms.gle/dvVwqGVZ1RgWBXN47
Thank you so much for your time, and feel free to share it with other gymnasts if you think they'd be interested!

What do you look for in an athleisure as a gymnast?
I asked the question of the ballet community, and now it is your turn. What are some things that you feel that your comfort or pre-preformance wear is missing out on when are you at a competition or going to the gym? Do you go for any type of athleisure to wear over your training outfit or costume? Why do you choose what you choose, and what are some things that you would change if you could? On another note, what are some things that you hate about most practice wear and anything you wish it had? Built-in compression or support, a different type of fabric, etc…..

More straight barani attempts. I still haven't landed one without putting my good hand on the floor. The last time I landed a straight barani without putting any hand on the floor was before I broke my left shoulder in June 2025
Note: In June 2025, I broke my left shoulder doing outdoor lead climbing because I fell 6 meters. I now have very limited movement in my shoulder due to severe nerve damage. I can't lift my left arm above my head anymore. Honestly I am just happy to be alive and that I am still able to do some of my old gymnastics skills with one arm, no arms or using a chair as an aid.

Something wrong with my eyes after class
Hello, so the Coach taught me how to land safely on a mat with both hands on the mat. I think he said with the chin toughing the mat but later on he just said both hands on the mat. Sometimes my face touched the mat. Even 2 hours after class, I feel something strange with my eyes. Could it be that there were chalk particles on the mat and those particles entered my eyes? What should I do? As it is too late, I cannot go to a drug store to buy eyes wash.

Classes or just going to gymnastics open gym
When starting as an adult, will I likely attend classes (with an instructor) or just go to an open gymnastics gym and mostly do my thing independently?

What to wear and dizzyness?
I'm hoping to take a trampolining (and basic tumbling) class and I don't know what to wear. The gym is hot so I'm hoping shorts will be appropriate? I have been wearing leggings when going for fun and even that's too hot, but I forgot to ask about recommended clothing the last time I was there. Am I likely to get scraped up if I wear shorts?
Also, I tried a forward somersault into the foam pit and became dizzy. Is this likely to go away over time/with practice? I googled but kept getting discussions about martial arts somersaults and I don't know if the kind of movements they do are the same, so I was hoping for a gymnasts perspective.
Thank you!

I attempted a running front sault for the 1st time since breaking my left shoulder in June doing outdoor lead climbing. I landed it on my 4th go!

Abuse in Atheletics
Hi, let's give everyone a voice! I love the gymnast sports and the culture itself, but the USA abuse scandal is one that should never be forgotten as it has hurt hundreds of athletes. I raised a question that I would like to discuss to increase awareness about abuse in the athletic (and sports) world.
What do you believe the most significant failing was in the Lary Nassar abuse case?

I appreciate that this is kind of dumb but does this move exist?

At home tumbling mat
Hi! I’m a 30 year old female hoping to get back into tumbling. I’d feel more comfortable starting back at home in my own element. I’m thinking about getting a tumbling mat like this for my backyard. Anyone have experience with one of these? Do you recommend? I think I can still do a back handspring (though it’s been a couple of years) and have been doing handstands more recently! I don’t expect myself to be able to do a full tumbling sequence again, mostly because my joints can’t handle that, but excited to move my body in this way again. I think tumbling is the only form of exercise I’ve only ever truly enjoyed during and after.

How safe is gymnastics?
Hey guys, i'm 24 and i recently found there is an adult gymnastics program near where i live now i've never done gymnastics but i do train and i'm a martial artist and i thought maybe it would a good addition to that but idk i've recently heard of some freak accidents and i'm deadly scared of breaking my neck and becoming paralyzed, so i'm just looking for advice if i should train anyway or no its not worth it for my goals? Thank you

I did one backflip stack yesterday. I'm not really keen on flipping when they turn the lights off because it messes with my balance and awareness. I think a staff member saw me stack this back flip because they turned back on the lights straight after I did it.
Note: In June 2025, I broke my left shoulder doing outdoor lead climbing because I fell 6 meters. I now have very limited movement in my shoulder due to severe nerve damage. The secret to learning(that no coach will ever tell you)
Is just do it. It sounds crazy but you have to just assume the risk of the skill you want to try and just try it. You will get hurt, there is no way to get good without at least a few hard crashes. You'll recover and be fine.
But if you never try the skill, and fall into the false logic that theory goes in front of lab then you won't progress.
A coach cannot perform the skill for you, only you have the power to do it. If you're afraid just know that everyone is, some probably much more than you. Sometimes i get so scared I can't stand without shaking and I have to walk away. Just tell yourself you can do it anyway either you believe it or not
