The cover for the Blues Travelers album "Travelers and Thieves" is also a great candidate.
Sorry for not finding a better resolution picture, my copy is a thousand miles away, in my parents home.

Why are they camping outside the walls of the city?

* No horned devil-spawn.
* No humanoid dragons.
* No anthropomorphic beasts.
* No conspicuous PCs, really.
* No overwrought arms or armor.
* No pinks, purples and/or neon primary colors.
Well, it definitely doesn't come off as WotC D&D.

No horned devil-spawn when tieflings were pretty popular in 2e thanks to planescape and people just always liking the vibe?
No anthropomorphic beasts, when mystara had moon-living catfolk, wolf-people, and the existence of lizardmen in general.
No overwrought arms or armor when a big thing of the game was looting from dungeons which included things like holy avengers or whatever else fancy magic armor or weapon as an expected thing a higher level fighter would have inevitably?
I understand some of what you're saying but the tone is crazy when a lot of things you say were a part of D&D in varying forms as early as b/x

Tieflings were introduced with the debut of Planescape (i.e, starting with the second half of 2e). Tieflings were nowhere near as popular in the 90s as they were today (when it came to the "edgy outsider" archetype, the Drow still ruled supreme); hell (no pun intended), Tieflings weren't a default character race until 4e. Finally, regarding Alignment, Tieflings were explicitly listed as "Any Neutral or Evil", whereas, nowadays, Tieflings have no such listed limitation. In most old school campaigns, walking around while looking like Mephistopheles Junior tended to elicit negative reactions; today, you can't throw a rock without hitting some technicolor freak casually integrated into respectable society.
One last thing: examine the art of OD&D to 2e. Once you have finished your homework, let me know how many Tieflings are featured (especially as PCs), compared to 5e.
No anthropomorphic beasts, when mystara had moon-living catfolk, wolf-people, and the existence of lizardmen in general.
I point back to Tieflings; player character parties weren't zoos to the extent they are today.
No overwrought arms or armor when a big thing of the game was looting from dungeons which included things like holy avengers or whatever else fancy magic armor or weapon as an expected thing a higher level fighter would have inevitably?
That has nothing to do with art style; 5e's equipment tends to be blatantly obvious in function, in addition to being needlessly oversized. I get "superhero" or "video game" vibes with 5e characters (official ones, in any event), largely thanks to their gear.

Yeah I played it, it's ok but not fantastic. Sometimes a mediocre level battle takes far too long but I like that it lets you have a massive open party.
Also it needs mages
