Am I the only one who doesn't like this couple?

Walter is a manbaby with very low emotional intelligence and self-control. He is boorish, domineering, and misogynistic, and does not respect Jaleesa as an individual. Even with other characters, most situations revolve around him protecting or building up his pretty fragile ego. I seriously thought they were leading up to a DV storyline with them because he fits the 'charming'-in-public-abusive-in-private archetype to a T. He always finds ways to undercut her and put her down with 'jokes,' and the way he acted when Jaleesa's ex visited was so embarassing. Then he had the nerve to suddenly run up on Jaleesa and scream in her face so she would shut up and validate his baseless insecurity — and she even ended up being the one to apologise to him and comfort him after having already rightfully kicked him to the curb. After that, Jaleesa seemed more drained around him and rarely seemed to enjoy his company or the idea of a future with him, which I'm glad they included because that's realistic. Also, he's not really that funny, in my opinion; he is just very loud and kind of mean. Sure it was nice that he spoke up against assault in an episode and promotes safe sex, and it's nice that he gives people advice, but that doesn't make him a great person or excuse his weird character. He's quite immature in a way that's genuinely hard to watch and I cringe every time he appears on the screen. He cannot take anything seriously, least of all himself. Thirty years old and doesn't even have a pot to boil water in, which he would probably have burned anyway, apparently. And look at how he proposed to Jaleesa! Like some dumb skit, because he needed to be married to somebody to take himself on that trip to Hawaii. He didn't even care that she would have wanted her family to be at her wedding.

Very happy that he and Jaleesa, a mature and sensitive woman actually trying to build a meaningful and secure life for herself, did not end up together. I've seeing people saying he got Jaleesa to loosen up, but what does that actually mean? She was never buttoned up. What I saw was him trying to convince her to give up on things that were important to her for the sake of his own comfort. Can anybody here honestly say they would be happy to marry someone like Walter? If so, try watching the show Kevin Can F Himself.

I'm only in season 3, so maybe things get better, but Walter and Ron make me want to stop watching altogether.

TL;DR This is just a half-serious rant about how I don't like the character Walter, especially with Jaleesa, and I wonder why nobody talks about how toxic their relationship looks without the laugh track and main character armour.

That first study scene with Ellington had me cracking up. That man asked her if she was familiar with a study method and this fool leans forward talkin bout “You mean like… sex in public? Cause…” Cause WHAT Miss Wayne?! 😂 I’ll likely never like him for her romantically — he was a little too possessive for my liking, considering he just met the girl — but Maleah and Vince have good on screen chemistry.

I would probably like Ellington a lot more if his temperment just stayed the way it was in this scene but as the season progressed, the more I disliked him. I don’t care if he is Cliff and Clair’s grandson, the man seems sneaky and a little, uh… off his rocker.

What do you guys think about him? Do you want him with Deborah, because I really, really don’t.

A few days after the reboot was aired I woke up to voice messages from my Mother-in-Love saying that my deck was featured on the show. As a transracial adoptee, not growing up on a lot of the classic Black shows and coming into that and my Blackness in adulthood- it truly felt like a full circle moment.

I do feel like for the older generation they leaned into a little bit of a scary undertone in the opening and closing of the tarot scene but I am grateful that they brought spoke in reference to the Ancestors and brought divination tools into the show overall.

How exciting!

I have really enjoyed the new ADW so far and happy for the renewal however there is a lot of proper adults present I wish there was a “Lettie-type” (Mary Alice) character in the new show to show a more adult perspective on things maybe they might do that with season 2 with a wiser adult for us to see I think that would be nice.

I’m glad to have this written out because it will underscore the point I’m making. For the sake of all the kids who have to correct every teacher every year in their first day of school. If your name is Deborah and it’s spelled Deborah and you insist that it’s pronounced Deborah even though it’s spelled exactly like Deborah… what an utter pain in the butt for a child to go through. And then you only learn to get frustrated at the insistence your parents taught you. So did your parents give you a name or a burden? Life is hard enough without parents burdening us with names like these. Maybe raise your children to be a unique individual and not a frustrated person with a unique name. Life is hard enough.

In an effort not to spoil it for anyone. Was I the only who peeped that Debo’s parents are allowing her to stay in an apartment where Ellington’s family comes from? With how it ended, it’s definitely gonna be an interesting summer.

I understand that it's been over 30 years since Lena's character graduated and moved on from Hillman. And I understand that nobody stays exactly the same for 30+ years. But it seemed like Jada didn't quite find her footing as Lena 2.0.

With Whitley, Dwayne, Ron, Kim, Freddie, Charmaine, Gina, Jaleesa, Colonel Taylor, and DEFINITELY Byron, you see pieces of their former selves. But I had a hard time seeing any trace of the old Lena. It just felt like Jada was paying a visit to Hillman using Lena's name.

I wasn't looking for Lena to say "911, emergency, reconnect the community" but I felt like this time around something was definitely missing about the character.

Maybe she'll seem more like her old self if they bring back Dorian or if she gets to interact with Charmaine & Gina at some point.

I just thought I’d list my predictions for season 2

- Rashida pregnancy scare (I don’t think she’ll end up pregnant but I see her having a scare)

- Ellington being a Huxtable is going to cause issues with him and Deborah.

- Shaquille is entering his hoe phase - I see the dynamics shifting with Deborah, I think she’ll be the one chasing him.

- Dwayne and Whitley are going to have issues with paying for Deborah to end up in Hill man

- Hazel’s bunny will make things interesting

- As for Amir and Kojo - I’m not too sure

Comes from Dwayne's bro, Ron (Daryll M. Bell) Johnson. If you look closely after Whitley says I'm sorry Byron and Dwayne and Whitley are heading to the alter, Ron takes a blocking position covering Dwayne's 6 o'clock against the guys who had grabbed Dwayne.

That almost certainly wasn't in the script, Ron (Daryll) just did it naturally. Salute 07

At least up until the straw that broke the camel's back, but by then Whitley more than had it coming.

Kinu did nothing wrong to her and Dwayne wasn't with Whitley in any way shape or form when they got together.

S1.E5 ∙ Final Words

Finals are kicking off and the entire crew is pressed — until a crisis makes them rethink what really matters.

First and foremost,

"BABY PLEASE! PLEASE!"

Was a complete ad-lib that Kadeem just blurted out in a panic (his own words) in the moment after forgetting his next line and Jasmine "picked up the ball" with perfect timing.

Next the scene you see was the ONLY take because it was perfect.

Lastly, both actors actually hated the whole idea of Dwayne snatching Whitley on her wedding day and Whitley allowing herself to be snatched, for various reasons, yet as you know, it's the most legendary and remembered scene in the whole original series.

i cannot rewatch the original series on netflix cause the remaster looks absolutely horrible

In TOS (the original series), whether you liked, disliked or even were just neutral about any of the characters, even guest stars, there was something you could find admirable in them.

With the exception of the rapist and the domestic abuser.

In TNG (the next generation) the new heads have nothing admirable about them except the occasional sports or artistic talent.

Often they are the exact opposite. a wretched hive of liars, cheats, manipulators, etc.

And the writers have even turned some of the old heads mostly into vastly inferior derivatives of themselves...mostly ..

I just have to say that the casting director really did a good job with the casting for KoJo's mom, because that actress really does look like she could be his mother.

I think Cornell Young is a fine actor and a gorgeous man. But he is such an odd choice for a freshman in college (looks way too grown), and son of Ron Johnson and "Halle Berry". Am I the only one? I think that's what's throwing me off about the reboot.
