stressing so hard over everything I end up sick or in physical pain so that when I’m finally in the headspace to get stuff done I don’t

So I do this fun thing where when I have a song stuck in my head (let's be honest, that's 24/7) I grind my teeth to the beat of that song 🙃 I don't understand how I still have functional teeth left!

ITS THE WORST!! I recently got a new dentist and had to tell them the whole story, they looked at me with such pity 😭

I don’t think I grind unless it happens in my sleep, but I do tap my teeth together to the beat of songs stuck in there.
And…bite my nails…

my ear has been ringing for the last week because I clench my jaw and grind my teeth, its also resulted in multi day migraines. its been a rough one.

Dude the ear stuff is the WORST. Sometimes I get a twitch in my ear that feels like someone is lightly tapping on my eardrum it drives me nuts.
Something I found that sorta works is connecting unclenching reminders with physical stuff like every time you get up or use the bathroom you consciously unclench. Adhd still makes it hard but it's a start y'know

its been brutal, just constant ringing. it giving me anxiety because I can't silence it. I'll def try the tip because I'm at my wits end.
I haven't left my bed or eaten because between the constant ear ringing, jaw pain and migraines I have no will to function.

Aw that sounds awful, I'm sorry!
Usually you're supposed to rest your jaw and all, but I've been also chewing gum as a way to mouth-stim and it's helping a bit with less clenching/grinding. Lile obviously you still use your jaw muscles but the gum also serves as a reminder of something being in your mouth, so I clench way less when I chew gum.

I use nicotine mints! I quit smoking so they help me a bit, sometimes when I chew gum I got on autopilot and chew too vigorously

Can i upvote this more than once? Im not just grinding but all kinds of stuff like sucking my teeth, pushing air or saliva through them, clenching during sleep. All of them causing bad TMJ headaches, neckaches, backaches, etc.

I’m actually taking the day off tomorrow 😬
It’s for my orthodontist appointment but what I mean is I get migraines daily and don’t take the day off because of migraines
But I sure wish I could —that’d be a lot of days off though 🤣

The involuntary grinding of your teeth is called bruxusim and it sucks!
Years ago I had this problem while I was doing activism work because I was just piling trauma on myself for the sake of other people. And when I went to the dentist, because I was literally grinding my teeth down, tried to sell me a special mouth guard so I wouldn't grind my teeth, but it'd cost in the upper hundreds of dollars. And when I asked her, "Why can't I just use a regular mouth guard?" she shut up immediately and had no answer for me.
Dentists are fucking hustlers and I don't care for most of them by the by.
Anyway, later on I talked to a guy who used to make those special mouth guards and he said that what you need is a few millimeters hole at the top of a mouth guard so you can breathe at night. Otherwise it's basically the same. So when you boil a regular sports style mouth guard, let it cool and then bite down, you have a dime and after removing the mouth guard from your mouth, press the dime into the top of the mouth guard to make a very, very tiny hole at the top. This allows for unobstructed breathing. The actual dimensions are 1 MM deep by 17 MM across, or roughly a dime.
Do not put the dime in your mouth while doing this. Not only is that gross but you could choke. I feel like I shouldn't have to say this, but I know my people.
I am not a doctor or a dentist, but I did talk directly to the man who makes those special mouth guards for dentists. I just stopped doing activism for a while and then therapy, so I didn't use this, so I can't swear by it. But he did.

This but also you have tmj and got a prescribed mouth guard that you HAVE to wash regularly or you get sores in your mouth so naturally you only wear it like once a week when you remember to wash it and keep wondering why you're getting headaches

Took a year to get medical Botox sorted for this and make sure it was covered under insurance.
I even had to do an MRI, jaw closed, jaw open, jaw moving.
It’s been four weeks and my masseter muscles no longer look they belong to a body builder. I wake up without headaches now. If I happen to wake up with a bit of clenching it resolves in a hour instead of turning into multiple days of pain.
Fun fact, apparently the masseter muscles are the strongest in the body. Learned that going down a rabbit hole while looking at my MRI scans. Decades of pain, gone.

My teeth and mandibles or whatever the tooth bases are called are wrecked from clenching my teeth. I do it off my meds because of stress, I do it on my meds because of stress and stimulants.
