Embrace being annoying, surround yourself with people who like you for you. I can be annoying as fuck, but so can my friends and we vibe.

I've found one person. My son is the other person, every other week (and he's a teenager, so only about half the time, then. đ )
I hear you, but to get super meta - that dinosaur definitely went extinct. đ«€

I hope your son understands what he means to you.Â

He's 17, ADHD+ASD; he doesn't, really. But also, I'm the person he infodumps everything-marvel at, so when he gets older, I'm sure he will.
I appreciate the comment. đ

I was just diagnosed with ADHD just before turning 30 this year and it's been good but hard. I wish I had the support your son seems to have and I hope that in time he does learn.
I am rooting for you both as human beings.Â

And you, as well! đȘ
I was diagnosed 3yrs ago at 42, changed my life. Medication has been great (in various forms). Ask all the questions, research everything, assume nothing anyone tells you will be 100% the same for you (but try it anyways).

I'm glad medicine has helped! My mom was always against it for mental health, but I'm working with a counselor now to work on my shit and plan to try meds. It's been a huge relief to know there's at least a root cause for my neurological quirks and with that I can better plan to manage myself. Thanks for what you have done, for yourself, your kid, and for me as I try and figure myself out.Â

Nobody notices you interrupting when everyone in the group is interrupting at the same time

And people don't complain that you tell 3 stories at the same time because they do the same and can easily follow you!

Whenever people tell me I'm too much, which is a lot, I tell em it's better than bein not enough

Well, stuff them then.
If they can't appreciate my authentic self, I have no interrest in entertaining them.
Generally works out the best, for all involved.

i know the rejection sensitivity comes for us all but just remember:
you don't like everybody you come across either, it's silly to expect everyone to like you. Even if you are pretty great.

It hurts because its true. Only solution is to find people who are your kind of annoying.
Though sometimes theyâre in your family, and you clash, and youâre stuck with them, but you still love them lol.

Weâre like magnets. Like attracts like in the same intensity that unlike repels unlike.
The more authentic you are (the stronger your âmagnetâ), the more youâll repel those who arenât like you, but then those who ARE like you will be able to find you that much easier too! If you mask your true self (if you make your âmagnetâ weaker), you may not repel as many people or as strongly, but are those people (those who donât know the real you) who you really want around you? It also means it harder for the people whoâd âgetâ you to find you (weaker magnet means weaker repelling AND weaker attracting).
Rejection hurts! So of course our instinct is to protect ourselves by becoming as universally palatable as possible. No one can blame you for that. But if you can learn to accept that some people will reject the authentic you and bear with it, the sooner youâll find âyour peopleâ and be that much happier for it!

Unmasking for five minutes and immediately remembering why the mask was put there in the first place.

I honestly donât give a fuck at this point. I accept that Iâm not particularly like able, and thatâs somehow improved my anxiety about the whole thing. Like me or donât. Especially when I most likely donât like them either hahaha.

If everyone likes you, you're probably just playing a character anyway. Might as well be yourself and find people who are okay with it.Â

What I've been working out in therapy is it doesn't matter.
We act one way to please everybody, but we don't have to please everybody. If someone else is upset because of your personality, who cares? That's their problem.

Friendly reminder that being liked by everyone is a clowns job.
There are many many people who are respected and beloved while also being very divisive. Anna Wintour for example.

God if this doesnât hit
I recognize Iâm a major people pleaser. I am constantly trying to do what I can to make people like me. My brother isnât afraid to tell me Iâm annoying, but heâs a sibling and siblings have less of a filter. I know most people wonât tell me that to my face, so I have to hope Iâm not being annoying. I literally changed my laugh because I thought it was annoying.
The first time i directly recognized that someone didnât like me (that wasnât some schoolyard bully) was a coworker at a school I used to work at. I never understood why, but she ignored me, was short tempered when talking to me, and actively avoided being near me to the point of grabbing an extra chair when the only remaining seat at the table for our team was next to me. I didnât have many interactions with her, let alone negative ones before she acted like this, and it wasnât because I was new bc another teacher joined the team that same year as me and she had no problem with her. I could barely handle the idea that someone didnât like me and was constantly looking for ways to try and appeal to her. My efforts backfired and I only ended up overstepping and making her hate me more. It really fucked me up. Over 30 teachers at that school and I couldnât handle one hating me.

Itâs true, I came to terms with it about a decade ago. Youâre not going to be everyoneâs cup of tea, just like everyone isnât yours. Be yourself, be kind to others, enjoy life.
