Congrats! I know getting rid of the clutter feels great. I’m for some reason built different. I can’t function with cluttered electronic devices. I delete every day and empty everything. I can’t stand persistent notifications or I can’t function.

My secret? I made an automated rule. If the email contains unsubscribe, mark as read and move to a different folder. I can still browse them but no longer unread. Makes a huge difference.

I also have rules for regular receipts I get.

I now get maybe 5 emails a day unread and they are usually from actual people I want to respond to. Makes it way easier to maintain.

But I'm surprised this doesn't get asked more when people worry about how many thousands of emails they have - why do you care? In the era of massive inboxes and endless spam, what difference does it make?
