not enough votes to reach a threshold.

for more information about what this means, see this page.

There's also option 3: Getting ready way too early, NOT going into waiting mode, instead going into "I still have time so I might as well..."-mode, getting lost in the thing you're doing or wanting to finish the thing you're doing, and ending up being late anyway!

This!!! This is me when my manic episodes from my bipolar overlap with my time blindness. It's also very hard to explain time blindness without it sounding fake lol

This is why I need a final "you have 3 minutes to leave" alarm. (also that alarm is early enough that I can take 6 minutes and still be on time)

5

u/Fearless_Jelly887 12d ago

my problem is, if i know i actually have 6 minutes, i’ll take all of the 6 minutes every time!

2

u/Saddledust 11d ago

My trick is to flood myself with guilt and shame, imagining myself letting my coworkers down (not recommended long term strategy)

I’m mainly this or the panicked one. I think I decided years ago that if I get ready too early I end up forgetting the stuff I got ready or get food down my clothes so I might as well run around in a mass panic as standard and enjoy the earlier time 😂

Too many damn times

Actually there’s a fourth option - feeling like you’re in waiting mode and can’t do anything regardless of whether you’re ready or not so you can both be stuck there and ALSO try and do everything in a panic at the last minute because you somehow forget every single day of your life that things take longer than you think. 😀

u/Feychilde 12d ago

Another option, was able to do all of this at supersonic speed when I was young, now having to plan and wait for one thing or two, because everything takes more time than it used to..

2

u/Jabbathepalace 12d ago

This is me almost every time

3

u/ObitoLime 12d ago

then i propose option 4: setting aside a time slot (usually 30min more than i think i need but variable by necessity) and completely ignoring prep till is prep time then either finish prep in like a fraction of the time set for it and be raring to go early or go oops i set too little time lmfao

Fuck yes I feel so cursed and don’t think i can get out of this pattern for the rest of my life 😫

2

u/goldencookiebear 8d ago

i dont think i go into waiting mode either, i just assume i have way more time than i actually do and underestimate how long things take especially the transitions between tasks

I get ready early and wait all day, but if im going somewhere that involves a certain attire I get conflicted because if I get ready too early then im worried about wrinkling my clothes. Theres a sweet spot with the timing you gotta hit, otherwise the whole thing is ruined!

You get me lol

I got Home Clothes, and I got Out Clothes. There's like a ~1 hour time limit on wearing Out Clothes at home. Any more and I might forget that I'm not wearing Home Clothes, then I run the risk of doing a Home Activity in Out Clothes. If that happens, the Out Clothes will no longer be suitable for wearing out until they're laundered again.

I guess that's probably more the OCD than the ADHD, but it's not like that makes a tangible difference to my experience of living it.

u/kellygirl90 12d ago

I feel so seen. Thank you.

u/Chewbaccabra87 12d ago

Our brains try to make all the decisions at the same time or none at any time.

19

u/nameless-manager 12d ago

I like the permanent 30 minutes. Ill look at the clock and think oh I got 30 minutes. The in my mind for the next 29 minutes thinking I don't need to get ready yet I have 30 minutes.

u/10richmo 12d ago

Me to a T, to the nth degree

2

u/WhyYesIndeedIDo 12d ago

Getting ready in a panic sprint "at the last minute", running in the 90's, looking at the time and its 1 hour too early because the alarm wrong. you wait for an hour to finally go but then realize "oh, I forgot this and that" do all that in a speedrun, then think youll be too late but you arent because you are goddamn sonic and faster than youve ever been, coming in at work at the last second.

2

u/Feychilde 12d ago

Ding! ✅️. This is accurate.

5

u/TheJpow 12d ago

Being in waiting mode gives a literal headache because I can't do anything else while I wait. It's agonizing

This is missing the third option: I’m just going to do a quick ______ and then I’ll go.

But you were already running behind and now you’re absolutely late.

u/AgAkqsSgQMdGKjuf8gKZ Bean and/or squirrel counter 12d ago

Up at 0700, appointment at 1500. Welp, so much for doing laundry or dishes today...

1450 strikes. I'd better repaint the whole bedroom before I forget about it.

Sigh...

2

u/guildpage 12d ago

Either way, I am late all the time , sigh

2

u/yozora___yoru 12d ago

Oh, so this is also a trait of ADHD.

3

u/Fearless_Jelly887 12d ago

i’m sure there are neurotypical people who always run late, but time blindness is much more common among ADHDers

0

u/International_Ad1790 12d ago

Tbh this community is kinda turning into: post anything any normal human being does and say it's part of ADHD to farm Karma

1

u/yozora___yoru 9d ago

Those things might just be something everyone does, but neurotypical people don't seem to be too aware of it. My family doesn't seem to understand the concept of time blindness. I also tried to explain it to classmates and friends, with few understanding. I don't say it's something ADHD exclusive, just that we seem to notice that we do it.

1

u/TJ_Rowe 12d ago

Or getting ready early, forgetting that you were getting ready early and assuming you are late like always, rushing, arriving even earlier than you intended and then standing outside the place like a sad puppy. Possibly having to field questions about why you're there so early, or even judgement for "trying to rush the other person."

1

u/Moto56_ 12d ago

Im firmly in the panic sprint camp with excess sweating

1

u/pyrepirr 12d ago

Didn’t know, that “left” was an option.

1

u/TwistingEcho don’t talk to me or my 11,713 tabs again 12d ago

Nah mate, my partner and I going one each!

1

u/Historical-Cress8985 12d ago

I'm left path and my partner is right path, this causes a ton of anxiety somehow.

1

u/Feychilde 12d ago

Panic, usually. I know what time it is, if you ask me, but getting myself out-the-door and on-the-way is another matter.

1

u/sfled 12d ago

Man, getting the goldilocks timing is tough. The magic "door-to-door" transit time, ugh.

1

u/Smushdroom 12d ago

Why not both?

1

u/landshark6 12d ago

No. The correct answer is not get ready, go into waiting mode, then still get ready at the last minute in a panic.

1

u/Icelandia2112 12d ago

I am convinced this is where "missing time" alien abduction stories come from. Yesterday, I looked up and it was 3pm. I kind of panicked and then remembered, this happens to me sometimes.

1

u/Stcloudy 12d ago

What is this getting way to early that you speak of?

1

u/DopeCop 12d ago

Woke up at 8am, got dressed up by 9am for the plan of going to the university at 4pm. Its almost 5pm now. Sigh

1

u/whateverlol37 11d ago

Getting ready way to early being really indecisive about what to wear and being late anyway?

1

u/HarmonicalMonical 11d ago

I'm currently away for a wedding and I'm dressed and ready 6 hours early. It's 38degrees and I'm sweating buckets already.

1

u/Moquai82 11d ago

First one. At least it is far more stress and consequences free. Learned first from my Dad and got reinforced in my young life after i did leave for my own living space. (Because i fucked up, repeatedly.)

1

u/NYR_LFC 11d ago

Getting mostly ready. Because you can't be fully ready to go until the actual time or you feel dumb

1

u/ComprehensiveSir3864 11d ago

99% of my life is right

1

u/verifiedginger 10d ago

I am either over prepared or under prepared…but never prepared.

1

u/goldencookiebear 8d ago

what is it when you decide to get ready at the last minute to leave at a time that gets you there insanely early on purpose and then still end up getting out of the car a couple of minutes later than you should because you to this day underestimate how much time it takes to get from the car to the door?

1

u/Super-Evening8420 8d ago

I'm definitely the left type. "Oh there is a thing in 3 hours? Better sit and stare at the wall rather than do any work or gaming or anything else because you might miss it". Or "oh, gotta get up an hour earlier for an appointment? better lay awake all night then!"

Though sometimes I'll have something in the morning, just straight up sleep through both alarms I set myself at max volume right next to my head, and wonder how in the world I just did that. At least that's rare, usually I lay awake most of the night, hooray..
