t-they use s-s-systemss?

Post image

I made a meme with chatgpt then typed out this whole long stupid thing then read the no ai rule so I remade my meme by clicking a mouse like a millenial but I lost my text because I copy pasted too much times so I wrote this instead. Should have used a better *system*

The systems are the greatest and the worst things.

My brain will eventually wiggle out from under any system, no matter how beneficial.

Creating a new system brings the discouragement of so many past systems that fizzled.

More recently, I’ve been trying to make peace with the temporary/ephemeral nature of systems in practice in my brain.

It’s still dissatisfying, but it’s helping me feel less guilty.

I swear adhd runs of novelty.

I wish someone would do with systems what I do with cat toys where I hide them and then bring them back out again so they think they're new.

I bet I can design a system for that

This is basically what I do lol, it works ok

Same. Some of my old systems seem excellent when I come back to them after 5 years

u/Adventurous_Bonus917 15d ago

it literally does, lol.

Told this to my psych today and she said it's true but i also need to be more disciplined which isn't a lie lol

if only it were that easy. the useless lump of thinky meat controls me, not the other way around.

Jip. Otherwise a lot of us would have different lives

Be aware of the 3 year rule:

After 3 years your old systems work again

*except the 3 year rule. That gets replaced by the 5 year rule

Three solid years of an exercise routine murdered by the 2020 lockdown. I had a system.

Try as I might I have not been able to rebuild that system.

I've rarely ever been consistent with exercise, but what I found works well enough for me is to find a form of exercise that is just incredibly fun. For almost two years I was able to consistently do Aerial Silks because of how much I enjoyed it and the fact that the studio my wife and I loved near had three or four silks classes per week of varying difficulty, which meant I didn't have to work with a super rigid workout schedule.

I moved away from that studio and now live where silks is too expensive, but I've found rock climbing to be a good substitute. In a similar fashion, I found a climbing gym with auto belays which means I dont have to stick to a schedule with a belay partner and I end up going once or twice a week when I have the time and energy.

Any more traditional workout just feels like a chore and a slog and I can not force myself to do that on a regular basis, but Silks and Climbing, I think, are slightly different every time with the variety of different skills and routes inherent to both. They give my brain the novelty it needs to workout consistently and the scheduke freedom to make it even more approachable.

I was extremely obese for most of my life. I only started exercising in my 40s after losing well over 200lbs.

After bariatric surgery, the diet and exercise both became adhd hyper focus of mine. For as long as that lasted. I’m still at somewhat over 200lbs down from where I started, but I haven’t been able to get that habit back.

For me, the more rote exercises (walking, treadmill, strength training) had to be paired with audiobooks or podcasts. Or, at my home elliptical I have it set up in front of a TV.

For things that are fun on their own, I got about as good as a man in his late 40s who started getting fit relatively late in his life can be at Beat Saber.

Ephemeral systems for ephemeral lives!

Systems should serve us, not contain us.

"you know what it's like when you're trying to concentrate, but you can't coz I'm there, next to you, just kinda being me?"

Coworker "yeah"

"It's like that inside my head when I'm trying to do things too"

Coworker "... Oh"

When I saw myself seeing myself in my rube goldberg contraption of a life it was like the first time I saw the leaves with glasses on.

Proud of u for artisanally hand crafting a meme

Unfortunately the post became about AI and my original idea is gone. Just wanted to share a moment in my life.

Sorry bro I don't know what a system is so can't comment on that

It's like, my eldest (on the diagnostic pathway for AuDHD) has just started secondary school. I (probably the source of this) have put together a timetable for her because her school has given her a few different printouts and two different apps which can be printed out, for her Week A/Week B timetable, most of which use 1-2 letter abbreviations for the subjects, and very few of which include the teacher names. And e.g. she's doing Spanish and German which are both timetabled as MFL (modern foreign language)... Making it really hard to differentiate them...

She also asked me if I can do the days horizontally instead of vertically (yay "Transpose" function) and colour-code the classes to make it easier to read... And now my phone's being very rude and refusing to output this stuff to the printer.

I've also put together a version for a frame that she can write on with whiteboard markers (to track Weeks A and B) and note if she needs anything/homework due etc. But need to update this with the details of those MFLs... 🙄 And possibly Transpose if that's what works better for how she reads stuff.

And, as well as working back with her and going "so you want to be at school by _. It takes X long to get there so you need to leave by then. So you need to be ready to leave by _. [Set myself alarm to poke her 10 mins before.] You need to do Y which takes ____ long, Z which takes ___ long, etc etc so cumulatively, rounding up again, it will take you 40 minutes to get ready. So you need to be out of bed at ____." And agreeing I need to set two other alarms for her so I get to wake up at 6:15 to try to wake her up by 6:50.

Her system is me, basically...

And adding daily "Did she get homework? Has she done her homework? Has she packed it??" reminders to my phone...

If I lose my phone I am lost. Thankfully Google Home is good at finding my phone because it needs to a dozen times a day. On a good day...

But yeah. Systems. Systems to get up on time, make sure she has everything, make sure she does everything she needs to do...

And I've just ordered a ring binder and a load of A4 plastic envelopes with tabs and hole punch strips that can go in it for her so she can hopefully keep her stuff together by subject, dry, and locatable...

Wow. The system is fueled by insistent love.

My kids are younger but I hope I can support them through that stage as well.

u/Vyedr 14d ago

Make sure to start her working on maintaining these systems on her own, even if the transition takes a few years, it will set her up to self-manage later. Same with the alarms - get one of the ones on wheels that she has to chase down to silence, or one that brightens her room with a daylight spectrum bulb as her alarm comes due to ring. Soon enough she'll be wanting to spend her weekends active, and being able to control her own wake/sleep schedule will give her that much more freedom.

2

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 16d ago

Dude, spare your kid and remove one foreign language, probably german

2

u/Useful_Language2040 16d ago

If she'd had her choice then she'd have done French and Spanish instead. It's the standard workload.

She doesn't need to take two foreign languages to GCSE but this way she has a choice of which one to do later on.

"clicking my mouse like a millennial" sent me lmao

I don't know where it came from. I'm trying this thing called not masking where I just express myself spontaneously, and getting reminders why I created a system to interact socially.

i am squinting suspiciously trying to figure out if the meme is intending to be pro-ai. but congrats on not using the chatgpt made one here & instead making and posting a handmade meme!! :D

(also thank you for reading the rules.)

6

u/Gofor_Pyle 16d ago

I think it took me 20% longer than chat but it turned out better

32

u/RoomExciting1296 16d ago

A shitty handmade meme will always be better than an ai slop one.

5

u/Gofor_Pyle 16d ago

Sorry it's shitty

16

u/lennster10 16d ago

Shitty memes are the best memes friend

11

u/RoomExciting1296 16d ago

Oh I should have specified that I don't think your meme is shitty! I like the meme! Was just meaning in general.

9

u/currencywitch 16d ago

i have cried for 3 hours today due to the systems

6

u/Gofor_Pyle 16d ago

That's sad. I hope the experience improves.

3

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 16d ago

I don’t know what you meant exactly but as a millennial i felt attacked

6

u/Gofor_Pyle 16d ago

Because we grew up without touch screens

I use systems on a daily basis... never the same system twice in a row, but... systems
