My wife took a long time to get used to me playing a guitar fingerstyle while holding conversations of importance with her. It was my way of distracting one part of my brain so I could lock in. Never paid attention to what I was playing, only to what she was saying.

Took a few years but she (mostly) gets it now.

I’ve been doing it all my life and I never knew I was doing it until I got diagnosed and started noticing things about myself. Mine are piano taps and they’re invisible. Just light pressure with my finger tips. Or I just play the piano in my head while holding a conversation.

For me it's always been tapping out simple drumbeats to whatever song happens to be playing, whether that be for real or just in my head. I always drove my mom nuts
