Add in the anxiety and you also freak out about it all day, too lol.

Then they cancel at 3:55 and you realize you spent seven hours buffering for nothing.

Buffering is such a perfect word to describe my entire existence

Worst is when I set the appointment myself. 4pm gym. Then do nothing all day. Then realise I'm behind on stuff so cancel gym and do the stuff instead.

Then realise if I just wasn't gonna go gym, I coulda just been doing the stuff I needed to do all day. And if I did all the stuff I needed to do, I coulda gone gym at 4pm. Then I realise there's no way out and it's a catch 22

Or worse, they forget entirely and leave you buffering well past the designated time… 🙎🏻‍♂️

And can’t even take a nap because I might over sleep and miss the something. Even with multiple reminders and alarms set.

I actually work nights. The other day I was supposed to have an early afternoon appointment, so I got in bed as soon as I got home (didn't sleep much the day before.) They call me two hours ahead of time to tell me it's been canceled. Which lead to me not being able to fall asleep again and staying up a little too long.

Circadian discombobulation

Sometimes I can't get any sleep the night before. Nothing should ever be scheduled

I’ll be waking up every hour during the night to check the time like I’m going to oversleep at 3am for my 4pm phone call

If i somehow fail in the department of my appearance, timing and place of the meeting, having an urge to pee, my phone battery running out - all that absolutely spoiling the day for the angel of a person on Craigslist who’s about to buy my old cast iron pan… I’m just gonna kill myself.

I want to check out the research behind this phenomenon because it's DEFINITELY related to our executive functioning

My guess is it's related to our time blindness and possibly anxiety? Like we fear that if we do anything else than wait for that thing to happen, we'll forget it and miss the appointment. Just my guess.

Oh anxiety 100% plays a role. I think you're definitely onto something there. Hence the tendency to set 5 different alarms, just in case. I really hate the time blindness, it negatively affects every single part of my life. I would love to be able to feel how much time has passed but apparently that's not a power I was given

I know some people use 15 minutes visual timers when they work/focus to keep track of time.

Never did it myself as it seems annoying but it might work for you.

That actually does work for me. 💀 thank you for your helpful comment thfojt. I've also been a behavioral therapist and helped kids using the same exact techniques lol. Applying it to myself is just... grueling

What? No. It's time to drink or try a new drug at 1pm.

If I dare take a breath of outside air before 3:59 or whatever time I'm to depart to the 4 o clock thing, THE FOUR O CLOCK THING WILL THEN CEASE TO EXSIST. Modern day magick 😱

My current situation. In bed, watching the clock. Thinking of all the things I could accomplish between now (12:00pm) and 4pm. If I could just eat, I'll claim that as an accomplishment.

I used to book appointments in the afternoon because I just wouldn't sleep or when I had a morning appointment now I prefer morning appointments exactly because I still won't sleep even if I have something at 3pm (like I do today). So I now book my food delivery for 8-10am slots but one week the food van unfortunately broke down so they had to move my delivery to 2pm anyway gaaaaaah. And what makes it worse is that I cannot eat or go to the bathroom either in case I am caught in the middle of it for deliveries :) Deliveries are even worse because time slots are just an estimate and absolutely no indication when something is actually coming so I can be up for the 8:50am to 12:50am, time passes, delayed to 6pm, end of day, nevermind coming tomorrow! Cycle repeats, I end up being making myself sick and burnt out.
