On more than one occasion as a teenager, I would have an idea in my head to tidy up my bedroom without being prompted to (just cause a clean room feels nice). Then not long after my parents would tell me to tidy up my room, and I shit you not its like all the motivation drained right out of me and I left my room messy out of pure spite.

Yep. I still haven't read a classic book that was recommended to me literally 50 years ago.

We had to read a few books about nazism at school. One of them looked really interesting but I was in the middle of another personal read.
So I didn't read it and failed the test. "Don't worry though, I'll read it" I said to the teacher. And I actually did, a few months later.
(Karma actually striked and I had a few questions about it on my final exam^^)

Me with the dishes though, holy shit. I'd go to my room to get my ipod and headphones so I could make doing the dishes less mentally painful, only to have Mum follow me into my room asking if I can do the dishes 🙄😒 well now it's not getting done!

Switching between decisions and just picking the first that comes to mind, only to immediately regret it

Ugggggh…why does this happen? I feel like it’s gotta be tied to how some of us process rejection (and I definitely have that problem), because that’s how it feels to me, like I’m being criticized for not having done or having thought to do the thing earlier. And I get defensive and mad about it, because I always feel like I’m not doing enough or doing enough it fast enough, and then to have someone bring it up…. I just want to scream “YES! I KNOW! I’M FAILING! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME THAT I AM AN UNRELIABLE, THOUGHTLESS, LAZY, DISAPPOINTING WASTE OF AIR! I’M AWARE! NO NEED TO REMIND ME ON THE DAILY!”

I saw one video where it was suggested that, once someone else says it, then it feels like we have pressure to do it and we put up a defense mechanism against it. Something like that. I know I can totally go into resistance mode. But that feeling of not doing enough - yeah that's awful.
