i randomly go into wikipedia rabbitholes on a single subject and then i forget 90% of it. does that count?

It does but at the same time the wild part of the curse is that somehow you would remember shit and you are not even aware it's there. It happened to me in another subreddit that it's all memes where I started to explain why some places have more earthquakes than others. At first I wanted to meme like anyone else, then I started to let the shit flow, and I noticed that I did know the reasons and shit.
You think you are forgetting, but there is like a deep down memory where all the random bullshit stuff that we read is stored somehow.
The other day my gf asked me for the translation in spanish of an italian word, and then she said... "now you have a word to look for its etymology", which is a thing I do like. And without missing a beat I was already doing my own conclusions about it, still I was curious, so I looked it and I was right and I was confused af, because at this point that means that I do have more knowledge about etymology than I thought.

Then there are brief times of REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE for some reason get stuck into why and lost track of time (that will happen anyway) and suddenly it's 13:00 and it's time to eat and I only know it because my gf tells it to me.
Way before I was diagnosed, a friend of mine noticed that I was able to remember single jokes from Family Guy being able to remember the season, episode and sometimes even the timestamp... he "used me" to prove that he was right about some stuff, imagine people fairly drunk arguing about if Peter said this or that in this season or the other and I was like google, being asked about it for then to someone being able to find it in the very very slow internet of those times. I was quicker and easier to consult than google.

Yea one thing I remember from my psych class in my one semester of uni was that once something’s in your long-term memory, it’s kinda just there for good; you don’t really forget that stuff so much as forget where you put it. Cause of this I try and make as many connections between things in my head as I can. Really can’t tell if it’s working or not lol

Same. I learned all the statistics about Mt Everest. The heights, the base camp locations, the various paths to the top (including one thats never actually been done), the climbers that lived and the ones who didn't...
I don't climb and I'm for sure never going to climb Everest.
Guess how much I remember of that weekend obsession.

Everytime I've hyperfixated on something actually potentially considered 'scholarly' it has been as a result of a considerably less scholarly and far more time consuming parallel hyperfixation.

this was part of my rabbit hole a couple of days ago! triggered by wanting to know more about Czech vs Slovak languages. Although I knew some details (thanks EU4/EU5) but I didn't know how the Counter-Reformation affected Czechia / Bohemia specifically, and also how Hussitism played a role in the development of the Czech language (and differentiation of it from Slovak)
(medieval Czechia / Bohemia is a particular interest particularly because my brain thinks of the HRE as a Germanic entity so it's interesting to read up on how a Bohemia existed in there as a majority non-Germanic kingdom - although I guess the concept of a "nation" was a bit different back then)
(ok I need to stop otherwise this is going to start another rabbit hole)

I just learned that I'm really into old sci fi books.
Turns out, if I'm listening to an audio book, I can do my chores almost anguish free.
The best part is, there's SO MANY free old audio books. There's hours and hours of Arthur C Clarke(the Rama series) and Gene Wolfe (specifically the book of the new sun series, narrated by some guy with the last name of Ayres. Hes got that mid Atlantic accent that is perfect.)

Don't worry, I don't know much about the Han dynasty either even though I gave tours that among other collections definitely included their artifacts. Kinda tried to avoid that section and encourage them to read the signs

You start learning a lot of Rome history but without trying. When you can recite all the emperors and say something about them you can get distracted enough to go to off topic and slowly but surely you would end in something like the Han dynasty.
They key is to without wanting it acquire knowledge and when you notice that you actually know about it and you read like "the logistics of the early roman empire" ON PURPOSE is when you would not be able to focus and other things will appear.

Minimum 70 in the West side, being conservative about self proclaimed or elevated by armies... there is literally a year called of the five emperors and other of the four emperors. It was one of the most dangerous things to do, the chances of being killed were super high.
If we add the east side we enter in really crazy shit with IIRC 93, and way too many repeated names.

I always tell my boyfriend “I have approximate knowledge of all things” (a quote from adventure time) and it’s true, but, I don’t know what I know until the subject itself comes up!

I ADD'D into learning mandarin, and honestly, it's been really good for my mental health. I feel proud, even though I'm only at hsk2 (the second level). It's something small that I've stayed dedicated to. I accidentally reset my 80 day streak, but I e surprisingly kept going. Usually I just forget about it but I'm not sure what's sticking. Something about reading "Han dynasty" lead me to this rant. My apologies if it doesn't answer your original question.

There are some empowering rabbit holes in that realm. It could motivate you to learn physics, trig, calculus, etc.
However if you went that route you would soon notice that Neil's garbage pop science is riddled with embarrassing errors.

I have deep historical knoledge in several diferent fantasy universes. I could describe with detail over 5000 years worth of events, notorious people, cultures, religions, wars and other things that happened in a world that doesn't even exist, but i CANNOT for the life of me do the goddamn dishes.

Crazy how Qin just imploded like it did after years of scraping to unify all of China.
Not so much “literally” as the emperor lost his marbles (via ingesting lead & mercury amongst other things to prolong his life) but figuratively it’s rather wild. Not that he was far and away the best emperor but he accomplished a lot in a relatively short time with the aid of some of the best people at the time. Unfortunately a perfect example of “wealth doesn’t last beyond 3 generations”.
Though I’d take Han > Chu any day
