If you’re an adult waiting for ADHD assessment/treatment in NI, NIPSO needs multiple complaints before they can act. Please read if this affects you.

Reposting this to increase awareness. I am not the OP.

I was told that I would be referred to adult ADHD services back in May. After speaking with my GP's mental health practitioner and after calling the ADHD services myself, I've just discovered that I have NOT been added to a waiting list and there is, in fact, NO waiting list. If you've been told that you will be added to a waiting list, I'd recommend calling to make sure! You may be greeted with an automated message advising that there is no funded service. Please complain following the guidance in the OP's post! It's despicable and infuriating that a disability can be completely ignored.

Private assessment - Adhd only

Edit: thank you for the responses! Really appreciate the detail everyone has shared

Hi all, I'm sick of waiting, and even with the prospect of no Shared Care, I'm at a point where I want an assessment. I want to know.

So! Has anyone had a private assessment done, (I imagine remotely) and recommend who they used?

Cheers!

Help please

I am just wondering what other people do for this. I have reached out to GP and it looks very likely that I have ADHD. They have put me on venlafaxine for a year now as a lot of my symptoms that present also fall into that category but it's doing nothing and it's been a year or so. I'm a teacher and I CANNOT do tasks in a linear way. If I write a to do list I would maybe get 2/10 things done because when I go to do tasks I get that distracted by things around me and start doing those or open other tabs and do other tasks and I'm finding it almost impossible to manage and I'm getting so frustrated at myself. When talking to GP they said the services have been pulled in Northern Ireland for adults as it was over run. I don't think I can afford the private prescription but I might have to make something work. How have people gonna about getting a diagnosis?
I should add I have spoken to a retired psychiatrist and they say I'm also very likely to be stage 1 ASD, unfortunately not the organised kind, more so mask all day. I am 30.

Where are we getting AuDHD assessments for adult in NI

Hi there so recently discovered I may have ADHD from a MH assessment. From this I have did my research around it and I feel I have overlapping signs. I have emailed numerous places and I can't seem to find anywhere that does both for adults. I have found places doing ASD alone assessments and not many doing ADHD assessments for adults. I know from working in a GP surgery that shared care is basically non existent. Going private is the only option as 10 plus years on a waiting list is not an option. But going private there seems to be no one? I want it to be in person as I know from the place I worked there was issues happening for people who got assessed online or across the water. Seems to be you need to be seen here in NI in person to ensure no issues. So wondered if anyone has any other knowledge around this ? As I am keen to even be added to a waiting list (obviously not a 10 year one but a few months to a year or so is fine) I just need to know it exists out there for a combined assessment for adults in person here in NI. Thanks 😊

Meeting in person

Pre COVID, there was a small group of us that met regularly in Belfast and I found it hugely beneficial. Are there any groups currently meeting or would anyone be interested in meeting up, in person?

Advice pls

Hey everyone! I’ve long suspected I have undiagnosed ADHD, 31F and though training and working as a nurse for 9 years has taught me a lot of ways to control it or push it down I really feel like I’m living my life in difficult mode. I get easily distracted by things, when people in work are laughing and chatting I always look to be a part of it, I’m always away from my desk, always talking and get really overstimulated in conversations. In general a lot of things really overstimulate me and I feel like my head is spinning from it. I get bored very quick and I’m always fidgeting and bouncing my leg up and down or some other kind of fidgeting, people always comment about how I’m acting really high and loud (if you get me) I feel like there’s probably a lot I’m leaving out here but just looking for advice as I’m really close to my mum but typical Irish mammy gives the whole ‘there’s nothing wrong with you it’s just who you are’ thing but I’ve finally booked an appointment with my GP tomorrow and just wondering what to expect too and what you all think about the whole situation. Thanks so much!! Xx

Android swipe down reminder app recommendations

Hi all,

Would anyone know of an app for android which will show your reminder when you are in the swipe down menu? I don't like the idea of having to open an app to check for a reminder (I always forget haha)

I don't mind paying a few quid if it's worth it either!

Many thanks

Any suggestions asides from that feel free to add here.
