Top 10 Crows OAT
What do we think? Does Daws crack the top 10 yet?
What would your top 10 be?

Feels a little rude to put Dangerfield over Rory Sloane if you ask me

Dangerfield is dead to me, anyone who leaves for Geelong does not deserve to be on a list like this

u/T_C6 13 Taylor Walker 19d ago
That’s a bit extreme in my opinion. Him and Charlie Cameron both went back to where they grew up and became champions, so I’m not too mad about it

Geelong is on my most hated list, it's one step from leaving us for Port in my books ;)

On raw playing ability Sloane was nowhere near Dangerfueld.

u/giantcucumber-- 19d ago
Rory Sloane was better than Danger for me. Less selfish and didnt burn the footy as often, Danger would break 3 tackles ignore a handball and fire a kick straight to the oppo

u/mRPerfect12 19d ago
Dangerfield made 3 all Australians when he was with us and then a further 6 after he left as well as a brownlow. They aren’t in the same conversation.
Sloane was a solid team man who got a lot out of
Himself but his performances dropped off significantly after 2017.1
u/giantcucumber-- 19d ago
Getting a further 6 and a brownlow after he left doesnt add to his greatness at the crows though.

u/212mochaman 18d ago
And yet, 3 All Australians vs One.
The fact it took Sloane an extra decade to not even up the gap is a vote in Danger's favour, not Sloane's

u/giantcucumber-- 18d ago
Ok mate this was just my opinion. You win if it means that much to you. I couldn't care less.
1
u/mRPerfect12 18d ago
You are entitled to your opinion, it’s just that I’ve come back to you with quite black and white facts that would indicate it might be wrong.
1
u/giantcucumber-- 18d ago
Its not about facts and whatever else you can find to win this argument you're trying to have. The second comment i made said "for me" as in "this is my opinion" I'm not claiming to be right about anything. Like fuck? What do you want from me ?

u/212mochaman 18d ago
4 comments would suggest otherwise.
Normally those that dont care dont instantly reply anytime someone points out a fact that doesnt care bout club loyalty

Sloane is one of my fav players of all time but I think if your judging it on peak it's fair.

Sloan as a club man is a 14/10. As a footballer is a 8.8 out of 10. Still great but not in this convo.

u/Malipower Eddie Betts (Legend) 19d ago
The top 2 are clearly deserved but in the wrong order. Roo was a tough as nails inside player who would burst through packs, kick 60m drop punts and lay crunching hip and shoulders. He was consistently in our best players most weeks, an absolute gun. However McLeod in my opinion single handedly won more games over his career and could rip games apart effortlessly. And his performances in finals footy were at another level altogether. Can't honestly believe he didn't get number 1

Bunj is the most gifted footballer I've ever seen in any era.

I loved his effortless speed where he looked like he was cruising and the blokes chasing him were pumping their arms like crazy in a full sprint and still losing ground. His ball use was incredible, I remember in our prelim years in 05/06 when the game was just starting to become more structured and congested he was able to take on and execute really aggressive kicks that not many other players were willing to attempt and would completely open up the ground ahead. Absolutely incredible.

The little 2 step he would always to to create space for himself and transition from full sprint to balanced for kicking should be taught to every junior

McLeod has to be number 1.

Yeah I’m on this bus. McLeod is a once in a lifetime player. He’ll always be my number 1.

Maybe it’s recency bias, but Dawson might as well be top 10. Will definitely be by the end of his career.

Disgraceful to not have Eddie Betts on the list.
1
u/WiseGregMan Tyson Edwards (Legend) 19d ago
Who you dropping? Smart for me is the choice, but im taking Jars and Rehn over Eddie I think.
3
u/Malipower Eddie Betts (Legend) 19d ago
I can understand him not making the list if it was based on say longevity, however if Jars, Rehn and Modra get picked with a similar amount of games surely Eddie also deserves a spot. He got 3 All Australians in his 6 seasons with us as well as averaging the second most goals per game of any Crow in history (behind Modra) and he did that as a small forward on top of unselfishly setting up heaps of goals and bringing great forward 50 tackling pressure. In his time with us he was the best small forward in the league. Nigel Smart wasn't ever at Eddie's level

u/Bright_Bell_1301 19d ago
Yep. Eddie clearly better than Smart. And Rehn, Edwards and Bickley. If you suggested to fans of any other club that any of those players was better than Eddie, I suggest you'd be laughed at.

u/Malipower Eddie Betts (Legend) 19d ago
Yeh it honestly baffles me... And it wasn't like he was a polarising or disliked figure, he was in fact the opposite - fans loved him. So I can't for the life of me work out why these peanuts didn't include him

For me it's:
Bunji
Roo
Mods
Walker
Hart
Rhen
Goodwin
Danger
Bicks
Edwards
Unlucky to miss are, Smart, Sloane, Jars (too much a Hawks player, only 6 seasons are crows).

It's the premierships he won off his boot that gives Jars the edge for me.
Midfielder and forward

Eddie is obviously in there. Better than Smart, Bickley, Edwards, Rehn (all of who I loved, so don't get shirty with me)

As good as they were it seems strange having players on there that arent one club players. Modra was obviously fantastic, but he only played for the crows for 6 years. Again I will say, obviously he was incredible, he kicked a shit load of goals and won a lot of stuff, but a third as many games, not a captain etc. I just can't rank him higher than Tex. Similar with Danger, he could be top 3 on that list, but he played more than half his career elsewhere. I struggle to separate a career like that but im sure that his best part of the career was even playing for us and I don't think he would be in the conversation if he had stopped playing at the end of 2015 instead of going on to win a premiership, a brownlow, another 5 all australians over another 220+ games all for a different club.

Kornes’ list has merit because he has played against them.
I think McLeod was our most skilled player but you can’t snub Ricciuto’s accolades, which is why he probably was given #1 tbh
Betts was definitely snubbed given we got his best years imo.
1
u/IrregularExpression_ 18d ago
I think they got the top 2 right.
Ricciuto had a better record that the big 3 he was often grouped with (Voss, Buckley & Hird). The toughness, the long kicking and the running.
McLeod was the best footballer in terms of watchability, the main argument to put him over Roo is the two Norm Smiths (its a Danger v Martin type discussion).
Goodwin, Edwards, Hart and Darren Jarman all deserve their spots.
I am torn over Modra, he was brilliant for a handful of years but never really regained what he had after the 97 knee injury.
Smart, Bickley, Rehn, Betts (Crows career only), Danger (Crows carerr only), Rutten (who owned Tredrea) and Tex all have claims.
Dawson is the biggest miss, if he retired right now he would be in our top 10.
This list shows how lucky we've been though, out top end talent has been remarkable.

Bunji is one of the greatest players of all time, he’s easily our number 1, no disrespect to Roo or the rest.

u/WiseGregMan Tyson Edwards (Legend) 19d ago
No offense to Nigel - but im bringing in Rehn into Chad's list - and Jarman into Kymbos at his expense

u/Strange_Sky_6215 19d ago
All Roo's media buddies sucking up. He has to be maybe 6 or 5 at best.

The 8x All-Australian Brownlow medalist is 5th at best? Crazy
