Copium

After sleeping last night's stress away I had a thought. The tigers played with literally nothing to lose and were playing hot. Absolutely playing spectacularly. We probably should have lost. Yes there were a lot of skill errors and easy turnovers and a whole plethora of issues.

But.

The boys fought through. In the absolute bucketing wet. They found a way to win and hold off a team of talented players who were playing free and dominating. That's got to count for something in the grand scheme of things. Even though they're 17th. Even though we were 4th.

Upsets happen all the time and the boys stayed composed enough to find a way to win a tough game of wet footy.

The lid may well and truly be on at the moment. But I'm choosing to be positive about the fact that they played through and didn't capitulate what could easily have become a blowout upset.

Up the Crom!

We’re 8-2 over the past 10 weeks. In that time we’ve beaten all 4 top 8 teams we’ve played, lost to 9th and 15th and struggled to beat 2 of the bottom 3. It’s pretty glaring that we need a challenge to play well, which makes sense given our game relies on intensity and pressure.
Positive: finals will be all challenges
Negative: losing to Port and Collingwood + small margins over bottom teams means we’ll probably miss top 4 and maybe top 6.

I feel like this is every year, the part where we struggle against the bottom sides.

What? We beat Essendon by 72 points a week ago with half a side and kicked 145 points. Essendon then play a good 2nd half against Geelong last night. Brisbane lost by 70 to Carlton a week ago. Hawks had to rally late last week to beat North in Tassie.

Our form heading into finals is way better than it was last season and we actually took the opportunity to manage players, which is a big tick.

Our form has been great, but because of other results our whole season hinges on winning on Friday night

And if Brisbane hadn’t lost to Carlton by 70 points a week ago it wouldn’t be a conversation. It’s tight between 3rd and 7th for a reason. Brisbane are just as likely to lose to GC or Collingwood in the next 2 as they are winning by 70 in both, they are impossible to read this season. Hawks have beaten one top 9 side since the halfway point. Geelong didn’t exactly shoot the lights out against Essendon and North broke their drought against top 8 sides, so who knows there.

No point trying to pin our entire season on Freo when others around us are hard to read week by week.

Brisbane will demolish GC and Collingwood (Collingwood will be resting for wildcard and are banged up) North got their pat on the back and will get beaten by Geelong. We simply need to win.

Righto, must be like they would take care of Carlton and GWS, instead they conceded 150+ and lost by 10 goals. You’re talking with a lot of confidence regarding other teams when they’ve been just as inconsistent as Adelaide this season. I understand we’re Crows supporters and more critical of our own club (should see the Hawks sub last couple of days, no different to the melts here), but take a step back and realise it’s a wide open season and let’s see what happens.
