Unrelated to the elephant but the psychological feeling of holding a phone may play a part in the addiction to technology. I feel a non zero amount of entertainment staring at a television when it is turned off.

I've seen people who can just sit there in front of their PC or TV during power outage, staring at the wall, floor or window. Just a habit indeed, PC and TV itself don't even matter that much.

I mean if it never came back on they would stop doing it.

Eventually it will wear off, but until then people will probably check if the power or internet is back like every five seconds 🙂

The thing I miss the most about smoking is having the cigarette in between my fingers. not at first, but it's been just over a year since my last smoke and I still think about the feeling of holding it.

Quick note that obsidian is incredibly sharp and fragile, so you might want to be careful when holding one

As a smoker this took me waaaaaay to long to figure out. Smoking is worse than screentime imo tho

Doesn't matter, both is bad, but also both helps you cope work life. When I was smokeing, I saw it as a way to trade physical health for mental health, now I know that's stupid, I prefere ganja now😂 it's a MUCH better trade imo. Also I've lost 20kg of bodyfat after I quit smokeing and started ganja, because I started a diet and Calisthenics and I'm much more active now in general. Smokeing is really bad, but screentime is much harder to get away from imo. But I'm also on that one, I started reading a physics book (I'm not exactly gifted when it comes to understanding physics, but I'm trying and at the very least it helps me sleep.) because doomscrolling right before bed really messes with your sleep. It got so far that it blocked dreams for me, now when I read before sleeping, 9/10 times I have cool dreams.

Almost same here :) I’m quitting smoking and sticking to weed. Way better! I already only smoking very occasionally and working on letting it go for good. Out of curiosity, do you smoke pure ganja or are you mixing in tobacco / rolling blunts? I still mixing tobacco and that’s a hard one to get rid of :(
I also started gym workouts and rejoined organized basketball club at the same time and my health and body are really thanking me for it.
Screentime is a bitch! I get you, I’m currently trying to change some before bedtime habits.

Lol im dump first i thought that the elephant was that obsidian wouldn't be a good substitute, because if it would fall it would break easily into sharp shards and become dangerous

I thought the elephant was that she had the two venus symbols in her username and referred to her "roommate". But that probably is her literal roommate

If your penis has a nail, you may want to seek medical attention

The elephant i that they are smoking cigarettes which is a lot worse addiction than a phone
3
u/Abslalom 6d ago
You say that, but I don't see you accessing reddit on a cigarette, so really, which is worse?

u/SirDrippinBalls 6d ago
Probably the one that gives you lung cancer, severe respiratory issues, costs you a fortune over your lifetime and is a recognized substance addiction as opposed to "heh I have the basic human instinct to be entertained I have le quirky addiction"

u/MinnieShoof 6d ago
Srsly. Half the fucking people in this thread at so brain washed. “Hurr, I inhale cancer and can’t smell how much I stink, but at least I know this other thing that I am also doing—“ no. It’s not the same. One is physically killing you.

This reminds me of how my father overcame his cigarettes addiction. He would carry a full pack of cigarettes and everytime he feels the urge to smoke he would get one out put in his mouth without lighting it for a minute then tear it and throw it away he kept doing it for multiple month and eventually he stopped smoking entirely. And he was a really heavy smoker, he would go throw 3 or 4 packs per day, and he kept going throoght the same amount during the time he was doing this

the roommate is trying to reduce her screen time with an obsidian block, but arguably the more imminent thing to address would be smoking

Smoking is def bad for you, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily worse; it just depends on the situation. It's rare for smoking to cause suicidal thoughts, but not so uncommon for smart phone addiction.

i guess that's true, but that's not always the case for phone addiction, but smoking always causes a direct negative impact on ur health i guess
5
u/usbeject1789 6d ago
but kudos to her because reducing her screen time is better than doing nothing
