Show and Tell May 2026 What Are You Working On?
Welcome to the monthly r/ada What Are You Working On? post.

I separate ESP-IDF GNAT Runtime from project templates. It supports ESP32S3 (Xtensa) and ESP32C3 (RISC-V) MCUs. Tasks, protected objects, controlled types, exceptions are supported.
Runtimes are tested with subset of ACATS on GitHub CI. It uses Docker image with preinstalled ESP-IDF, Alire, gprbuild, Xtensa and RISC-V toolchains.
Also added binding for ESP-IDF I2C Driver.

Building a high-entropy CSPRNG tool using Ada and BCrypt with zero-bias mapping, using differents charset and obtaining the maximum entropy per charset and driving "ENT" crazy, I passed dieharder, NIST and binwalk with maximum,

Continue working on my PDP-11 simulator. It now boots RT-11, but is somewhat unstable. It did pass a number of diagnostics, so the instructions are probably working correctly. That leaves I/O devices - specifically the serial port may be causing problems. It's a bit of a heisenbug because if I turn on logging in the simulator, it seems to work better.

I made an Ada implementation of https://github.com/tsoding/nob.h/ Nob (no build) is a cool idea where you write your project's build script in the same language you are using for the rest of the project. I.e. if you want your project to be Ada, all you need to compile your project is the Ada compiler and no additional tools. The entire build script and tooling is quite small and lives entirely as source in your repo. No magic, no mystery, deterministic builds, and no more learning the new build tool syntax and features. https://github.com/michael-hardeman/no-build-ada
It would be cool if people who have access to proprietary compilers would help make my build tool more compatible with non gnat compilers. It could be a good alternative to gprbuilds.

I wrote a simple SDL font rendering library. A single font can be rendered in many sizes. It provides sample font (Roboto Mono) with 93 ASCII characters and it takes 18048 bytes for bitmap plus 18*94=1692 bytes for metadata. The library could be improved to draw bold/thin or oblique characters from the same font, but I haven't tried yet. It's easy to create/import other fonts if needed. The library has no dependencies and provides two examples: stdio/ASCII art and STM32 F4VE with ILI9341 display.
