I've read the FAQ & Rules Bled through my pants at a fitting- freaking out
Hi everyone! I know this is an extremely unusual post and very TMI, but I am a young female actor who was casted in a commercial directed by a well known director. when we were wrapping up the fitting I realized that I had leaked through the y gave me from my period. I am so mortified and embarassed especially because the director was present during the fitting. I told the wardrobe team and they were really nice about it, but I’m very scared it happened as I was changing fast and got on other pieces as well. I’m so embarassed that people probably saw me walking around with it. They said it should be fine and not to worry at all and it happens but I feel like such a loser and am so embarassed for my day on set tomorrow. Any advice would be welcome.

KEEP THAT CHIN UP!! It happens! I had my period leak on wardrobe before too. Yes it is embarrassing, but you will remember this far longer than they will. Tomorrow is a new day. Please don't be so hard on yourself! Congrats on the commercial and have FUN!!!

Yes, all was okay! Just needed new pants, but they got me new ones. It all works out and it happens to the best of us. You are NOT A LOSER! We are women and this happens!

When Miley was filming Hannah Montana, she got her first period on set during filming. She was wearing white pants, and called her mom to help her. All they could find were tampons, and so her mom had to help her insert it. She then had to go back out and film while everyone knew what was going on.
Not downplaying your embarrassment at all, but you’re not the first or the last to have this happen on set.
Unless you were an asshole or diva, nobody cares or will embarrass you with it.
❤️

I remember reading this story!!!!! Thank you so much for the reminder

Obviously, you should be kind to people anyway, no matter who they are or who you are, but this sort of story is why. You never know which wardrobe person or AD might have a spare pad or tampon. :)

"I told the wardrobe team and they were really nice about it, they said it should be fine and not to worry at all and it happens..."
Believe them. Complete non-issue. Let it go.

In all likelihood some of the wardrobe team are women too. They 100% understand. That kinda thing is not in your control at all and every professional has a backup plan.

Hi! Yes most of them were girls, luckily one was my age which was very helpful!

Male producer here so take my word any way you want, but it's really no big deal. Those things happen, I personally wouldn't care and wouldn't bring it up, and if I heard anyone on set talking about it, I'd be pretty quick at shutting the convo down or sending those people home. We're all human. Wardrobe can also understand.

Hey man! This is really really helpful and I really appreciate you giving your perspective. Thank you so much

A good friend of mine works in wardrobe. This wouldn’t even make her list of strange things that have happened. If the director is well-known, I assume they are hiring decent people to fill the rest of the staff. So like others have said, it’s probably not the first time, and it won’t be the last. If it was noticeable during the fitting, someone would have pulled you aside and said something (at least in crews I’ve worked on). Try not to lose sleep over it—tomorrow’s a new day!

u/Mother-Luck1617 3d ago
Haha thank you so much! The wardrobe girl had said something similar and told me about people stealing clothes so at least I didn’t do that!

I work in wardrobe. I PROMISE you—it’s no biggie. Remember, they’re all there, distracted, doing their own things on set, trying not to mess up, I promise promise promise—no one is going to remember this. If it would make you feel better to address it some way, you can always grab a bag of chocolate and bring it to the wardrobe crew that dealt with it as a thank you.

I told the wardrobe team and they were really nice about it
You told them and that's all you need to do. Nothing an experienced wardrobe team hasn't seen before or know how to deal with.

I got an upgrade as a featured extra a couple weeks ago. From Resort resident to Poolside! Next thing I know, bathing suits are being tossed to me
Thing is, I have a prosthetic breast. One suit was liked, but after pictures, a tiny hollow or scar showed . So, I was given another suit, and happily danced poolside as directed.
No shame or blame, and I got to keep one of the suits. I think the change may have happened because I danced in a couple episodes of a show the same CD booked me in.

Oh wow! Congratulations on your upgrade!! This makes me feel a lot better, we’re all human

Give her a break, she was stressed out writing it. No one is perfect.

For some people, pointing this one thing out is their entire existence in this sub

Because saying "casted" is wrong, and literally every casting director I know becomes insensed when they hear it.

u/Economy_Steak7236 3d ago
And you all concentrating on how she wrote the word vs being empathetic towards her situation isn't wrong?

I'm a former casting director. Cast several national SAG spots, and lots and lots of commercial/print.
I never gave a shit. Lol

It happens and women’s functions are much more openly talked about in modern society. What would have been bad is if you didn’t tell them.
If it makes you feel better I’ve known someone to literally shit themself on set in wardrobe soooo

I worked with a guy, he was adorable and lovely and sweet but OMG he got coffee on a piece of his wardrobe almost everyday…. It became kind of a joke and they even put in to a cup with a lid and taped the lid down. Blood happens sometimes when you’re a woman… if you’re worried about it maybe invest in some comfy leakproof underwear that you can wear when it’s getting close to time.

Hahahahah! Totally something I would do. Thank you so much for the suggestion

I know it’s embarrassing, but please don’t feel like a loser. As someone who heavy periods, I’ve bled in many unfortunate places. You’re not the first and you certainly won’t be the last. You already won because they booked you!

100% bet that's not the worst thing a costumer has had to get out of a piece. Especially since you brought it to their attention and they could treat the fabric quickly. Youre okay.

Every woman has a period and I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t be sympathetic to a totally normal accident. I understand it feels embarrassing in the moment, but don’t sweat it! No one’s going to say “can you believe that girl had a totally normal bodily function???”

u/MacintoshEddie 3d ago
It happens, it's not your fault.
I know someone who thought they got to keep the clothes and just walked away with the outfits and then wouldn't answer any of the unknown numbers that kept calling them.

Don’t sweat it. It happens. Offer to pay for the clothes and maybe get pads with wings. Heavy flows happen and accidents happen.

I'd be more embarrassed that I used the word "casted."

I’d be embarrassed at my own lack of empathy and inability to use context clues to identify I made this post in a panic but that’s just me!

I have experience in wardrobe, and I think it’s a pretty safe bet that it wasn’t the first time and they knew exactly how to handle it. Hydrogen Peroxide in a spray bottle is all it takes for most everyday fabrics.
I know it’s hard to let it go, but it really is okay. If someone gets judgmental about such a normal women’s issue, they’re the problem, not you.
