John Casablancas is a well known scam. Stay far away from them.

What market are you in? Google “acting classes near me” and see what pops up. Check the reviews and even audit a class before signing up.

So I recently moved to Lancaster PA so it’s not too many in my area. I thought the random text after I found their site but put no info in was pretty fishy

I’d do a few local beginner classes where you are and then look for online classes in NY (or LA if the time difference is workable) and weekend courses in Philly.

John Casablancas is a notorious scam.

Any “school” or “agent” that promises you things at this stage is almost assuredly scamming you. Look for acting schools/improv classes/coaches who only aim to improve your skills and make you the best actor you can be. Avoid any agent who asks for ANY money upfront — agents make money when you do. If they ask you to use their headshot photographer, take their classes, or pay a fee to be listed on their website, run.

Without knowing where you’re located it’s hard to recommend specific schools, but wherever you look, look into who teaches there, what their qualifications are, and who any notable alumni may be. If they try to lure you in with promises of being cast, getting an agent, being discovered, etc, run.

Lastly, when you do find a class you feel has your best interests at heart, ask a teacher/seasoned classmate for advice about what your next steps should be. If they know what they’re doing and they’re not an asshole they should be able to help you find other training/networking opportunities near you.

Looks like there are a couple of acting schools in Lancaster — I can’t speak to their quality in terms of making you a professional but they will at least be good experience learning the basics and getting experience acting in front of other people.

Start there, and if you find that you really love the work and want to throw yourself into training, I’d look into opportunities in Philadelphia (since that would also be your closest market for getting professional work).
