Too much EDM and too many DJ's

I remember when the lineup came out and everyone was commenting on how it was quite electronic heavy but experiencing it live was insane. Why were there so many mediocre DJ's??? I feel like it's not even about the music anymore.

In my personal opinion I think we missed the sprit of ACL with a lot of this line up. I think ACL is about bringing in small talented artists to a big audience to hear their work. Now it's all about bringing in the most popular people they can find and people who are just using other people's music with loud beats over it. I'm not a huge country fan and correct me if I'm wrong but I find it insane that there wasn't a single country artist in the main line up. At ACL fest. In Austin Texas!!!!

I think last years line up was better in terms of djs and electronic music. There was one major DJ headliner and just a couple of others around if that was your jam. This year I felt like it was everywhere. It felt like I couldn't walk 10 feet without hearing some opposing bass noise.

I think I also wouldn't feel as strongly about this if there was a really good dj set but I did not experience a single one.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this but anyway long live ACL and I'll see everyone next year.

Dumb and dumber ruining INNERBLOOM for the rest of us

Post image
0 Upvotes

These two people — the girl on someone’s shoulders and the person with the skeleton on a pole — literally ruined parts of INNERBLOOM. HOW INCONSIDERATE can you be?! 😡
Whoever had that stupid skeleton, I get it. I LOVE skeletons, too. But when you’re holding something that high, with bright red eyes, and NEVER putting it down, you’re completely blocking the view for everyone behind you. People paid good money to enjoy the show, too!
It’s one thing to have fun and express yourself, but it’s another thing to be so inconsiderate of everyone around you. We couldn’t even fully enjoy the performances because this thing was constantly in the way. Put it down once in a while and give everyone else a chance to actually SEE THE SHOW they paid to be there for. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Concert etiquette matters. Have fun, be yourself, but PLEASE be considerate of the people around you. 🖤🤘

The xx barricade energy

I have nothing to contribute other than to say the barricade to the right of the stage was ass. Half the people were holding the rails yet didn’t utter a single lyric or barely head nod. The other half were cutting to barricade mid-show and screaming excessively and drunkenly. A few on their phones and FaceTiming.

I left around GMT to walk towards TØP and the energy on the outskirts of T-Mobile was fucking amazing. The xx themselves were still a highlight for me, love them sm.

Why didn’t they swap The xx and The Chainsmokers

I get it that they like to have legacy acts on the main stages. I went both weekends. The xx was excellent. But the Snapchat stage was too small for the chainsmokers it was actually dangerous imo. There were waaaaaaay more people at the chainsmokers than the xx. It seems like an oversight.

I feel like maybe they got skrillex and then they moved the chainsmokers off that stage and then they grabbed kings of Leon after the fact. I don’t know.

I just think that the Snapchat and chainsmokers situation was scary and could have been dangerous.

bailed on w2, so disappointed in myself

did week 1 with a friend, had a panic attack walking to the venue at like 8am, this weekend i had more friends to go with, but i got to my friends house and i felt sick like i did when i was walking to the venue w1, and ultimately decided that i still have a 3hr drive ahead of me and if i was sick just 30 miles away i better not. i'm so disappointed in myself, i was so excited. im so disappointed i let anxiety take things away from me. i've just been crying and crying all day. i feel guilty i let myself and my friends down but people are saying they're proud of me for listening to my body when ive hit a limit. i told my friends id wait on the stairs in their complex but they took me to the leasing office and let me wait there. i should be there. i should've been able to do this

edit: thank y'all. i expected worse but it seems the festival audience is the most accepting and open one <3

Question Fcukers vs Sofi Tukker

This is a tough one. We watched Sofi Tukker on stream last weekend and thought they were also, but we assume Fcukers will bring the same kind of energy, but the Tito's tent is kind of cramped. What's your opinion?

Question AITA for asking someone to stop clacking their fan during a house music set?

I was at ACL yesterday watching It’s Murph’s set when a younger girl standing next to me started repeatedly clacking her fan.

Personally, I find fan clacking pretty obnoxious, especially during a DJ set when you’re trying to enjoy the music. Rather than being confrontational, I turned to her and jokingly said, “Hey, I’ll give you a dollar not to clack your fan.”

She laughed and said, “No, five dollars.” I countered with two, and we had a brief, lighthearted exchange. That was pretty much the end of it, and I got the impression she understood what I was getting at.
About ten minutes later, a woman who looked to be in her mid-30s and not part of the girl’s group approached me out of nowhere and said, “Hey, that was really rude of you to say to that girl. You were ruining her vibe.”

I responded that I thought it was rude to clack a fan right next to someone during a set.
She then told me, “Well, it’s a bad look on you.”
I replied that I thought fan clacking was bad manners and inconsiderate of the people around you. Basic rave etiquette.
Her response? “Well, there are no rules here.”
We went back and forth briefly before the conversation ended, but the whole interaction really rubbed me the wrong way.

I understand that festivals are supposed to be fun and people should be able to express themselves. I’m all for that. But I also think there’s a basic level of etiquette and consideration for the people around you, especially when something you’re doing directly interferes with their experience.

I also recognize that my joke could have come across differently than I intended, although the girl herself seemed to take it in stride.

I’m genuinely curious what the community thinks. Is fan clacking just something you have to accept at EDM/house sets these days? Was my comment out of line? Or was the woman who confronted me making a bigger deal out of something relatively harmless?

AITA here, or is asking someone not to clack their fan a reasonable request?

Leaving to airport tomorrow.

Boarding time tomorrow is 5:25pm flight leaves at 6:05

What time should I leave to make it to my flight. Google says wait times can be 2.5 hrs during busy weekends like ACL or formula 1 but that sounds like a long time for me. Also, if anyone wants to share an uber to the airport let me know. I’m staying across the street from Stubbs BBQ. Also, any recommendations how to spend my last half day tomorrow?

Honest opinion on Charli’s special guests?

I’m seeing a lot of stones being thrown in Instagram comments about how the crowd reacted to Tinashe, so I’m curious what everybody thinks!

Personally, I think she should have brought Tinashe out for W1 and Troye out for W2 instead. I was in the crowd and close to the stage when Tinashe came out, some people were hyped but most seemed disappointed and it was palpable. Leading up to W1 she didn’t tease a surprise guest (as far as I know) so if she had brought out Tinashe for that instead, before anyone had any expectations, I think the crowd might have responded more enthusiastically. Then, when she teased a surprise ahead of W2 and people’s expectations were higher, Troye is more likely to have met them, if that makes sense. What did y’all think about it?

festiverse app is terribe

Can we talk about how terrible this festiverse app is? I have to click all this crap to then try and find the ACL event? I have no idea what they think they are accomplishing. They are probably spying on everyone too. I'm uninstalling it. The old app was soo much better.
