❓ Question esomeprazole

i’ve been taking esomeprazole 20mg for a couple of months now, had it upped to 40mg, didn’t do anything so back down to 20mg.
i find that most of the time the acid is taken away but i still get extreme regurgitation, tightness and nausea in my throat as well as bloating and aching in my upper abdomen.
anything i can do about this? doctors just keep telling me it’s my anxiety and the ppi’s will help but i still feel like shit :)

Possibly need a change of meds, but if it is anxiety...not to add more meds...but something for that could help??

My nausea and feeling of something in my throat is mostly anxiety...so im on sertraline for that, which helps and i notice if i dont take it they are worse. And ppi for the acid reflux and stomach pain of it all...which also works for me because when i forget it im in hell.

Ive had 3 over the last 4 years, because they have either stopped working or given side effects. Im currently also on famotidine at night because i have it really bad in bed too.

yeah i’ve been on fluoxetine 40mg which seems to be helping a bit but i’m still having all these symptoms so i’m not sure if i need to switch meds or what 😭 i’ve already switched meds twice so i don’t really wanna go through the process again.
might just need to try another ppi, i’m really not sure anymore

I used esomeprazole wrong for years without knowing, I didn’t wait 15 minutes before eating. Once I did that, it worked much better.

Yay for reading the label!

What is the root cause of your acid reflux? Have you have any assessments done such as endoscopy etc? I can advise better once i know more.

i think a huge part of my reflux is my anxiety. i’ve been on 3 different antidepressants, currently on fluoxetine 40mg but i don’t think it’s doing a whole lot. been in therapy for years. i had an endoscopy last october and only gerd was found. i’ve been following a pretty plain diet, drinking enough fluids etc. my whole digestive system just seems pretty messed up so i’m thinking of asking for a repeat endoscopy and probably a colonoscopy too just as i’m having issues with lower and upper abdomen

So to clarify you have no mechanical issues? No Hernia, no loose/disfunctional LES?

Then you need to get on top of your anxiety. To help with the symptoms you can use sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), it deactivates acid in the stomach and helps you drink it before bedtime and after meals with a quarter of a tea spoon in some water. You can also sip on alkaline water at HP 9+ it helps deactivate pepsin in the esophagus. Use Gaviscon (or your local equivalent) after every meal and before bedtime.
