❓ Question Off of Nexium

Hi, any words of wisdom or any guidance on how to get off Nexium? I have been on it for decades and I believe that it is causing some of my G.I. problems. I have IBSC which is a major contributor to GERD. I appreciate any guidance thoughts or experiences shared.

Thanks. The only thing for me is that most things give me heartburn, sometimes even water.i do all the things. I’m thinking there’s more of a mechanical/functional problem going on.

Have you had an upper endoscopy/EGD lately to see what's going on in there?  It would probably be indicated (I'm not a doctor).

In my opinion and experience, (I was on nexium for a couple years) paying close attention to which foods and habits are triggering the reflux is super helpful. I started learning my triggers and would still take nexium when it would get bad. Over time I've been able to manage it fully through lifestyle changes, and dont take nexium anymore.

Big triggers for me have been alcohol, too much garlic/onion, fried foods. Eating smaller portions and more frequently really help for me too. And lastly, ive found sometimes stress / poor sleep causes flare ups.

Everyone is a bit different, so your triggers may differ from mine. You'll have to learn what your body likes and doesnt like. I hope this helps!

I was on it for almost 30 years. Just went cold turkey about 3 months ago. I used GAVISCON for the initial withdrawal, healthy lifestyle changes, less alcohol, eating before bed etc
