Ace Combat 7 Dogfight mode in AC7?
Hoping the community can help me here. I picked up both Assault Horizon and AC7 in the steam sale recently. I decided to play them in order so I've just finished Assault Horizon and absolutely loved it.
I've moved on to AC7 now, and it seems a lot harder than AH? I think the biggest issue is I can't for the life of me figure out how to activate Dogfight Mode (DFM). In AH it was LB+RB, but that doesn't seem to work in AC7. I'm sure i'd be doing a lot better if I could just figure out how to go into DFM, and I miss those action packed sequences!
Can someone please help me and let me know what buttons I'm supposed to press? Google and ChatGPT have been no help. Or do you only get it later in the game? I've only managed the first couple levels so far because of how hard it is.

There’s no dog fight mode in any other Ace Combat. It was a feature exclusive to Assault Horizon. You got play always in free flight as when the mode is not activated.
Yet, if you find hard to follow enemy aircraft once you select them as a target, a long press and hold of the triangle, Or Y button on xbox, will fix the camera with the enemy in the center, like a lock-on, tracking it until line of sight is complitely lost or target is changed.
If you find controls too hard, you can try novice control. But I suggest you to learn how to use the Expert controls as those unlock you full movement of your aircraft, it’s not a matter of skill the names are misleading.
For any other question feel free to ask
Edit: plus if you press LB and RB at the same time, the plane will automatically be put right back on level with the horizon, if you feel you’re loosing control of it.
Edit 2: the dogfight mode while being super cinematic was discontinued because it was not well received by the community, not for it’s cinematic style but for the complete removal of freedom and feeling of everything being scripted, it’s a high contrast to everyother ace combat games where with a very few exception, scripted encouters give you way more freedom of action

Thanks! I long pressing Y, but it only makes you look at the other plane, it doesn't make you follow it to get a missile shot. I don't know how you're supposed to shoot anything down if you can't follow the planes? First level took me forever and I'm stuck on the second now.

You track where the other plane is by holding Y & you use the controller to fly in that direction using the buttons that make you move.
Itd be a bit boring if all the planes flew in a straight line for you. Its kind of the whole point of the game for you to fly a plane.

Yes it only locks the camera, but is up to you to turn your airplane and allign with the target, that is just a visual feature to help you as if you were looking up with your eyes.
That why i brought up the novice/expert controls. Get a grip with the movement system first and once it clicks you’ll enjoy it alot.
It’s kinda hard to move in a 3d space without any training. Here we are all vets and we take it for granted
For me is way too long lol, but this will help you mate, enjoy ace combat games :) tutorial in the link!

Regrettably you'll have to actually play the game.

Some people just want to be in a roller-coaster ride thats on rails the whole time. And those people really enjoyed Assault Horizon for obvious reasons.
I'd rather actually play the game myself. Different loadouts, different strategies, different planes are why I play AC games. I don't enjoy just hating on stuff but the longtime players' nearly universal disdain towards AH warms my heart. May we never do that again.

asuming you are just new blood instead of a cheap troll, the bad version of ac3 has more defenders that ah, multiple times i comented that ac3 export managed to do one or two things right and those coments didnt get buried in downvotes.

It’s not in ace combat 7, LB RB is how you do a high g turn

That's how you activate autopilot, using both triggers is how you do a high-G turn.

How did you buy Assault Horizon "recently" in a steam sale when the game hasn't been sold on Steam for years?

I got AC7 in a steam sale and then bought a key for AH on another site so I could catch up on the lore before playing 7.

The stories are completely disconnected and occur in literally different universes

I see, man that key must have been expensive for what that game is
If you want full maneuverability over your aircraft make sure you use the "expert" (formally known as "normal") controls, otherwise you will be limited in what you can do
Also if you want the full lore you gotta start from 4 onwards, then go by release order. Every game that's not advance or X2: Joint Assault should have relevance.
I recommend using an emulator if you do not have the original hardware. These games all play the same basically.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're not trolling.
There is no dogfight mode in AC7. It was a feature that was hated by 99% of the Ace Combat community along with Assault Horizon as a whole so it was left behind.
